    New company, new career

Update: I won my first garden room and started building it on 14th Aug! The customers are really nice people and the project is a really fun one. It's a nice big garden room with three rooms, two sets of bifolds for the study and craft rooms and an extra shed / storage area. The site is in...

Is a multi function workshop a flying submarine?

thanks I think the lighting divides the room, some like it, some don't. I'm not fully decided yet... I fancy getting some lamps dotted around to create some pockets of light, I'm not a fan of big overhead lights so that might be my next plan of attack.

Is a multi function workshop a flying submarine?

Hi Triton, that's interesting - are you worried you might regret taking the wheels off in the long run? I still find myself moving stuff around a lot so not feeling like I want to have anything fixed just yet. Ive experimented with a table in the middle of the room and it works pretty well, but...

Is a multi function workshop a flying submarine?

Hi Paul, its looking quite different now but still not yet mature - I'm letting it evolve a little organically now. I've started using the space more now, for both woodworking and exercising, which is so far working pretty well, but there are a few things that need addressing. Here are some...

Fixings for stud wall to concrete floor and blocks?

You could use small metal L brackets and save the hassle of drilling through 90mm of timber with every fixing. Would be a cleaner job to remove later too. I use concrete screws all the time, work perfectly at long as you don't overtighten them. Plugs for the soft blocks like others have said 👍...

Quick question, so I can get on with the job.

I would hose it down and leave to dry in the sun if you can. If I had to guess I would say it won't affect anything as I've never heard of a cleaning process pre EPDM, and like you say it's pretty inconvenient.

    New House, New Workshop Build.

I'm surprised the bi-folds have a better u value than an insulated garage door; typically the glass is always the thermal weak point in an insulated outbuilding, by some margin. Maybe the garage doors have air leaks or something. Martin

Deep cracks in support posts ... Do I need to fill them?

What about if you pour some resin in there? That way there wouldn't be a void for water to sit in.

Walnut chopping board - advice please

Actually I'm not sure. I started to doubt this myself today.

Walnut chopping board - advice please

I like this look (above in pic) It's walnut and cherry, seems like oak is not the best so I might try the cherry if I can get hold of some. Although I may need to orient it end grain up same problem as with oak?

Walnut chopping board - advice please

Cool idea. Not my preference, I prefer straight lines I think but thanks for the idea.

Walnut chopping board - advice please

Haha probably not. I have about 20 in various sizes, I still have a long way to go on the clamp front. Was planning on doing the glue up in sections unless that's a bad idea....

Walnut chopping board - advice please

    I could do this too

Walnut chopping board - advice please

Note that the stripey effect will probably disappear once sanded, I think that's just grain being aligned by the track saw. The join in each 'strip' is what I'm trying to deal with if that makes sense

Walnut chopping board - advice please

Hi I'm making a chopping board for my friend as a wedding gift. I'm using walnut. I was going to mix some oak in with it but I'm now thinking I might just go pure walnut. Looking for some advice. Here it is so far: I'm cutting up an old desk, so it has a noticeable join where two boards have...
