    varnishing small parts

by uneven do you mean that it is thicker at the bottom, a la gravity? have you tried different varnishes? you'll get better answers if you can post photos. also what varnish are you using, how long are you waiting before you remove the drip? my instinct would be to dip, remove excess (drip)...

Anyone got a mcallister mitre saw stand

I think it'll be hard to track down a macallister part for a stand, however I'd assume those to be rebadged items sold under many companies' branding, so if you can find the part after market it has a chance of fitting. Normally I'd look at somewhere like https://www.mtmc.co.uk/ for exploded...

Can i use a different ah drill battery

if you go down this route make sure you know where the over discharge protection circuitry is, i believe for instance that dewalt batteries have no over discharge protection, instead relying on circutry in the tools, and I believe makita have circuitry in the batteries but not in the tools, so...

Can i use a different ah drill battery

have to agree with spectric, for the cost of new battery you are half way to the cost of buying a new drill, screwfix have a dewalt with 2 x 2ah batteries for £100 at the moment https://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-dcd778d2-sfgb-18v-2-x-2ah-li-ion-xr-brushless-cordless-combi-drill/420pu part of...

    Screws for battening through multi-foil

My instinct would be to use the longest nail you can get away with and if you are not confident that it will hold use more of them

I've never used a sliding mitre saw before, but I've just bought one. Looking for safety/operating advice.

they look good, last time I was looking for one of those (at least a year ago) they seemed to be only available in the states. I knocked up something similar from scraps instead

    Tablet/phone charging

i know you are using the same cable, but it is also possible that that is a factor, twist one way it is fine, twist the other and the connection is weak or broken. I use a 'usb doctor', which tells me the voltage and amps going through at any given moment, others are available that will tell you...

to quickly test your cuts are square cut a long scrap piece, turn one piece over and but the cut edges together, your two pieces should sit in a perfectly straight line. similarly to test a 45 degree cut fold the two pieces together, cut edge to cut edge and you should have a perfect 90

If the timber isn't sitting firm and square across the fence your cut won't be accurate so clean of the sawdust from fence and base regularly

as per bingy man above but also once you get used to it don't get too comfortable and get complacent, care and caution will save your fingers. also use dust extraction or use it outside, they create more sawdust than you can ever imagine

Electric Multi Function Tools the cheaper ones and Gas Central Heating Boilers

for occasional use there are any number of cheap options, as long as you buy corded so batteries aren't an issue, and you buy a machine that takes an easily replacable blade type (I have dewalt which uses the open back type which I've always liked) you are going to be fine. Get good quality...

    US Election November 5th

I can't understand, given that Kamala Harris has polled so badly for years now, why the democrats seem to have chosen to accept her as their candidate. She will have to work doubly hard just get back to a neutral position with voters, putting trump squarely ahead.
