    Shortening a fence

is it not possible to take the panel down to work on it?

    Radio for workshop

personally I'd go for a DAB radio, on the premise that simpler things have less to go wrong

    2mm diameter drill bit bends?

why is it more accurate to cut down the tip than the shaft? I would have assumed that a factory machined tip would be be more accurate than a home sharpened tip, so better to reduce the shaft where accuracy is not important. I can only think that reducing the shaft would leave the chuck...

    Alternative to Bench Vise

I use a bench bull, a scrap frame of heavy wood that can be clamped to in multiple directions and planes, also gives a raised surface which saves the back, comes out of use in a matter of seconds and moves around the workshop just as quickly. several variations on youtube

the first joke I ever remember hearing - did you hear about the wooden car, it wooden go

    Show us your Tobacco Tins!

first thing I did when sorting through my late fathers tools was to empty out maybe 100 tins of god knows what, half of them where sealed shut with rust and crud, barely any were labelled, everything went into clear organisers.

    Router bits starting out

personal preference but I'd say it makes sense to buy a cheap starter set, which will allow you to find out which bits you actually use then buy nicer bits to replace the ones you use reguarly

    Getting sub titles on youtube.

on my tv, watching youtube, you press up which brings up an info box, and then a bunch of options including a cog for settings, which I think includes subtitles, maybe qbox works differently

    Makita cordless biscuit jointer?

suprised it is the sort of thing you'd use outside of a workshop, shows what I know

    Washing machine

you can get antivibration mats that sit under the machine and dampen the movement, I found some individual foam feet on amazon that claim to do this but they were little more than scraps of mousemat and pretty useless.

    Series 3: Britain's Best Woodworker

I was stumbling around the bbc iplayer yesterday and stumbled across 'loggerheads', broadly similar to handmade, but all greenwood projects, in teams of three, half hour episodes, worth a look

    Series 3: Britain's Best Woodworker

It would be really easy to redesign the show from the ground up, but the reality is you will never get a televised elite woodworking show. it is this, or find more specialist content from youtube or the like

    Amazon Prime Day

there is so much range online, or even just within amazon, that there is always countless offers to be had at any time, or within a few weeks of looking, putting a time limit on 'bargains' is literally a technique used by conmen. if you find something you need at a good price, fair eneough...

    Re roofing my workshop

I found similar on a neighbours outbilding, an almost flat roof, that often sits wet, I think technically it mets the angle rquirement of the sheeting, but I think it wants a really good angle and a lot of support against sagging

    Re roofing my workshop

an obvious step up in terms of cost, but I saw a youtube shed build recently that roofed with a premade roofing board / system that was essentially an insulation panel (like kingspan) sandwiched between a corrugated metal roof and an interior cladding. cost vs time seemed to be a worthwhile...

What's the difference between these two 12" bar clamps (apart from the price)?

the main difference will be the clamping strength, which for some reason isn't listed, but the scale of the head to the rail in the picture gives it away the really heavy duty one normally have a white label on, cost about £25 and have an i beam rail, amazingly strong, but big and heavy, great...

    Has anyone bought from Temu?

you now have to look very hard to NOT sign up to amazon prime each time you purchase, puts me off using them. As does the fact that yesterday I was in my garden when a van pulled up, dropped a package at my neighbour's gate (100 ft from her door), yelled 'I've left a package' and buggered off, I...

    A mysteriuous axe

perhaps the mods should routinely seal threads more than a year old (ie no new post for a year), they could still be viewable as archive, and linked to for reference

    Removing bitumen from recycled flooring

do you mean an oscillating tool / multitool, or am I on the wrong wavelength (no pun intended)?

    Has anyone bought from Temu?

have a friend who bought from temu, sold on the promise of a £100 voucher with the first order, when it came it was a pack of coupons that totalled a £100 when you spent £shedloads. just common sense as far as I'm concerned, seems too good to be true? not true!
