    Router bits, which makes?

I haven't bought a Titman cutter for years. Most Trend cutters were once Titman ones. I believe you could tell by the little tell-tale slot at the base if the shaft. I find that now they are just that bit more expensive, compared to alternatives. There are quite a few being sold on Ebay at...

    Router Cutter Bearing Screws

Thanks for the input so far folks. And, in response, I feel I should add a bit more information about the cutter. It is a cheap Chinese 1/2" straight cutter, and it looks to be a standard Allen screw in the bottom bearing. I've just taken a punt and ordered some 3mm Allen screws, in that - I...

    Router Cutter Bearing Screws

Here is what should be a fairly simple question. - What size are the screws used to hold the bottom bearings on router cutters? One has just broken off in a cutter, which I have, luckily , managed to remove the stump of. Now I need a replacement It seems to be measure a tad under 3mm diameter...

Sash bar dimensions for historical windows

I would just pop the broken piece back with a bit of super-glue, The old rhyme runs - " If it wasn't for filler and glue, what would us poor joiners do ". There are often unseen flaws in timber that only become apparent when you cut into it . I had a length of skirting once that had cup...

    Crockpot

The one I have is NaHSO4. which I believe is Sodium Bisulphate . Still hazardous, but comes in a powder form that is added to water. Has to be fairly hot to be effective. Tends to be used by jewellers. I've only got it as I'm trying to make some sterling silver ring ferrules for a whistle I will...

    Crockpot

I've just had a crockpot delivered - it's is for some pickle. And, no - I'm not branching out into cooking, or posting in the wrong forum - it's to keep some safety-pickle warm, for use after silver soldering. I did try to be good and "shop at home first" and use the one in the kitchen but it...

Sash bar dimensions for historical windows

I think it prudent at times to look into the background of some authors. Paul H Hasluck, for example seems to fit the profile more of a journalist and editor than a skilled tradesman. Judging by the sheer variety of technical subjects he wrote about he couldn't possibly have had hands on...

I think that a lot of this discussion goes to show that you shouldn't believe everything you read in books.

    Nice £1 carboot find

" You was robbed" :giggle:, though " You couldn't make it for that." as they say. I have one of these but the groove hasn't been machined parallel with the sides of the rule, which makes it a bit of a faff to use.

    Jacob's chuck drawbar question

I have to be naive and ask the obvious question. If Morse tapers are not meant to be used with a draw-bar, then why do some come with internal threads? Surely, any Morse taper drive on a wood-lathe, is subject to sideways force, even during normal spindle turning operations. In the OP's...

Tiling Standards blob or full bed? Help

Interesting to note that the blobs get smaller at the top - as if the tiler was trying to make the adhesive stretch to finish the job.

    Black streaks during hand planing

The wood probably isn't as dry as you think it is. This is a problem when working with green oak as all the steel tools turn black because of the tannin- this can then rub off on the wood.

    Notes From "Moy Gaaden"

Always interesting to see how others are doing. Over the years I've gardened in different parts of the country. And I suppose I was spoiled by being able to grow, first in Lincolnshire, then in Beckenham, which in the past would have been classed as Kent. Both excellent places for growing. Now...

    Notes From "Moy Gaaden"

It's at this time of year, that I tend to look back and take stock of what has happened growthwise in the garden. And, I have to say ,it's been a very strange year. The green house hasn't been nearly as productive as other years. The tomatoes have been remarkably undersized after ripening - I...

Sash bar dimensions for historical windows

I would echo what @johnnyb says about handwork. Years back, before I invested in machinery and before the advent of easily available suitable router cutters. I used to purchase the stock ready moulded from my local woodyard. There is a passage in Charles H Hayward,s 'Woodworking Joints' that...
