How to fit a 3.50 x 8 tyre and tube

I would have to agree with @toysandboats just circumvent the problem by buying a solid tyre. I found that I was always having flat tyres, and that the rubber on them was often degrading after only a couple of years, much like elastic bands, now seem to perish after only a few months.

Sowing the First Seeds of 2023

Arrrgh!............ Just had a delivery from "Cornish Cabbage Plants" of bare rooted, wallflower, cabbages and leeks, Just had to brave the elements - high winds and rain - to get them heeled in which will buy me a bit of time to finish the beds. Am typing this peering through rain spattered...

Sowing the First Seeds of 2023

Apologies, my sense of humour gone astray........... It's all in the suffix "ette", Hence - life is too short to stuff a "very small" marrow , which indeed it is :giggle: A play on the quote by Shirley Conran, " Life is too short to stuff a mushroom"

Stuffing a marrow is one thing, but life is really too short to stuff a courgette. :giggle:

Possibly something to do with the "Similar Threads Feature", though I note that the oldest one at the bottom of this page is 2022.

    Sharpening

I would have to admit that I do sharpen my skew chisel using an oilstone though this is very much the exception. If I were using a pole -lathe alongside normal, carbon steel, chisels then I dare say, that all my sharpening would be done this way. But with HSS it is so much more convenient to...

    Sharpening

I have the jig illustrated - only mine came via Ebay. I'm also using the same Record 8" grinder although I don't have the CBN wheels. It works fine enough for me to replicate the different grinds. There is a moderate amount of messing about when first setting it up, which in my case involved...

Sowing the First Seeds of 2023

Well, today "I were mostly gaard'ning" - pulling up tomatoes , in the greenhouse, and potting on some foxgloves ( 45 in total). It is quite a commitment growing biennials. as you have to wait that much longer until you can enjoy them in bloom - it's also an act of faith. Despite all my...

    Ferrule Making Success

Ah.... as ever, context is everything. This is a trial run, before I make a set in sterling silver for a whistle I want to make.. When you are looking for tubing in metals other than the usual suspects - steel, stainless, brass and copper. Then there is a problem with availability. It follows...

    Ferrule Making Success

Following on from my thread "A Practical Maths Problem", here are a couple of photos showing my experiments with making ferrules from sheet metal. First shows the bending jig along with a series of my experiments. The second is a close-up of these experiments. And, from left to right: 1, is an...

    A Practical Maths Problem

This would certainly protect the plating whilst being held in the chucks but the ferrules are sanded with the wood, forming a continuous surface. I have noted ,however, that a few whistle makers have the ferrule at the mouthpiece end, slightly raised above the rest of the whistle diameter...

Sash bar dimensions for historical windows

The tenon shoulders on ready moulded sash material are cut using mitre blocks which have a 90 degree slots in them allowing for a right angled cut. You can obviously buy pre moulded stock for windows and the method for fabricating windows using this are outlined in chapter 5 of Charles...

    A Practical Maths Problem

@chaoticbob , presumed correctly that these were for my "penny/ Irish" whistles. They have a ferrule at both end., The longer ones, that I am using my jig for, form part of the mouthpiece. I do have a small rod of this, that I manage to get cheaply. and will try turning some ferrules from it...

    palm tree wood

There is a timber called Black Palm, on The Wood Data Base. which might well have similar characteristics to the wood you have. I've just read it, and it doesn't seem to be good for much and is difficult to work and finish.

    Blossom On Apple Tree

Last week I had two tiny clusters of blossom on the apple tree It was all white, with no pink tinge, but It has gone now with all the wind and rain we have been having. I can't say that I have noticed this before .The only other shrub/tree that seems to do this, but on a very regular basis...

    A Practical Maths Problem

This was one of my initial thoughts. But you would end up with very sharp bevels at both ends of the stock. that would only get more acute when the metal was bent In a sense the discrepancy between the inner and outer circumferences is lost at all stages around the bend and where the two ends...

    A Practical Maths Problem

Surprisingly, using the jig I have made, the bend is very neat and uniform. I certainly could not have done it quite so neatly with a pair of half-round pliers.
