Which screws for fibre cement cladding

I suppose " you pays your money and you takes your choice". :giggle: I believe life of a new building is rated at around thirty years, before remedial work of sorts will have to be undertaken. The more heavily plated, steel screws, sold specifically for this work, should last that long . The...

    Help identifying tool

I'm intrigued, 🤔 Does the wider vertical arm, positioned in the middle slide sideways? And, how many separate scales are there marked on the wooden parts?

Old knackered Karcher K7.20MX 1.034-850 Pressure Washer

There seems to be nothing quite as disheartening , as trying to get a broken pressure washer to work again.

    Durable wood in ground ?

There is a BS test for timber rather colourfully called " The graveyard test" where samples are partly buried in the ground. From personal experience, with treated posts, I also coat the base with bitumen to several inches above ground level. Just to be sure. :giggle:

    Smart meter con ?

I had a similar letter many years ago - before the advent of the smart meter, It was for my old workshop, which was in a complex of recently converted ones. All the meters had been installed at the same time and weren't that old. Strangely mine was the only one they decided to change. I can...

Hello fellow wood enthusiasts, is this ok or would it be an issue.

Ii is just a thought, but I was wondering if a different approach to forming the outside edging would be acceptable. A circular edging could be laminated out of veneer, much as wooden hoops used to be. It wouldn't necessarily be obvious that the oak was laminated, but appear as nice straight...

Hello fellow wood enthusiasts, is this ok or would it be an issue.

Hi Karim. Yes, it can fail during machining , or after. Though if you are lucky it can be glued back invisibly. Which is why I suggested machining it in MDF and veneering this afterwards. You can indeed use solid oak strip as @spanner48, describes. You will need heat to bend this into a circle...

Hello fellow wood enthusiasts, is this ok or would it be an issue.

This looks deceptively simple to make. And if it were all MDF, then there would be no problem. The easiest way to fabricate the whole panel, inlay and frame ,would be to use an overhead router guided by a pin. The coloured MDF would be easy enough to machine to a disc, with the required rebate...

    Paint stripper recommendations please!

You could still buy the stronger Methylene Chloride stuff off Ebay - specifically the ones that were called Professional or Industrial and came in 5 litre containers. Though a quick look no longer shows me the one I still have in my workshop. I've had really good success with one of the...

    Post here?

Perhaps there should be a "I just can't help myself" thread. Maybe called " Joke Commentaries" It seems that any thread left to run-and-run goes off topic in the end, only to be closed down. The exceptions to this being " Post s photo of the last thing you made", and "Post a photo of the last...

    Food safe ca glue

I have no experience in using it but, could you use something like Urushi lacquer which is considered food safe when cured? Mind you ,this could be a rabbit hole ,down which you do not wish to disappear.

Who are the go to Cabinet Hardware Suppliers in the UK ?

@Blackswanwood shows some useful links, though I never really found a supplier who covers all the bases, Most firms tend to cater more for the architectural side of things, which is obviously the bigger market and cabinet hardware, where it is offered is usually secondary to this. One of the big...

    Money's no object !

For me I'm not sure it would be the "toys" or space, per se. I would approach it more from the point of view of embarking on some large, worthwhile project. Perhaps get a team of like minded "fellow travellers" together to renovate a historic building in need of lots of TLC. What space, or bits...

Ledged and braced gate between properties.

Logically, in a string of houses one of the fences might well abut a street. In which case it would be the responsibility of that end house. And, it could equally as well be to the right or left of the property And, it follows, that, one of the end houses will also be responsible for two...

    Joke Thread 4 (closed).

Didn't quite get it myself, but in retrospect the stereotype should be that the lone female would be in touch with her caring side and the males not. In which case,, the joke would have worked better if "Murder is okay" had been the last picture in the series.

    Baking

That looks tasty, but life is just too short to wait that long. I've regularly used a bread maker over the last 15 years. It takes 3 hours 15 mins. Now that, I can cope with.

    Router recommendations

A few years ago I would have recommended something like the Triton !/2". However the pricing of these is now in the region of £300. The cheaper ones, that might turn out to be okay, are perhaps the Trend ones. I have had a Hitachi for over 30 years that has proved indestructible, so, perhaps...
