    Plumbing problem...

The boiler will generally have its own valves built into the tails before they leave the bottom of the unit. No real reason for the air valve on the expansion vessel to stick apart from corrosion. All that should be around it is air so if it is solid I am guessing it is because the diaphragm has...

Best and least messy way to remove surface rust from tools

    Plumbing problem...

Your boiler will probably have inbuilt isolation valves, so isolate it from the rest of the system first. If water comes out of the valve then you will need a new expansion vessel. Can be a relatively easy DIY job, depending on the design.

Anyone got one of these? wiring issue, help appreciated.

Not much use in solving your problem I know, but I use a hydraulic scissor lift. Takes up a lot less room when you are not using it.

Wasn't it Einstein who said that failure is success in progress :)

    bandsaw tyres.

The video I posted uses a very similar technique, but you just need a short length of smooth metal rod and a washer, then use a drill to spin it, works a treat.

    Electra Beckum HC260 Help

I think the noise you are getting sounds like the sort of chatter you can get between a worn wheel and shaft. At a certain speed it becomes much worse, throwing off the belt. Not familiar with the machine but could you perhaps bore out the holes and fit oilite bushes?

Wadkin Lathe RS - Banjo Attachment... Dismantling

I was going to say exactly the same. Bit of bar with a suitably sized hole in the end for the pin to be driven into works well. I have had some fun with these on old lathes. Sometimes even with a press they just won't let go. All good fun.

Never seen one like it, very nice. Just need some tiny screws now :)

Can anybody beat this for old equipment

Know nothing at all about printing, so that is interesting to know. I assume you are referring to the way the image of the tool itself is rendered? It is very well done. No idea what these tools originally cost, but assume they were quite expensive. One thing I have certainly noticed is that...

Lidl's quibble quibble 3 year tool guarantee

I think the other thing to bear in mind is that sometimes you will deliberately abuse a tool in order to do a particular job. For example my trusty reciprocating saw. Screwfix own cheap range about thirty years ago, Ferm I think, without going in the shed to look at it. Cost less than £30...

    Nutool scroll saw

Worth looking at other brands. Nu Tool machines were also branded Draper, Sealy and Warco to name a few you might find a match that way.

Lidl's quibble quibble 3 year tool guarantee

I have to say I have a number of their tools. Most are only used occasionally but some, their half inch drive cordless impact tool for example, have had some serious abuse and never missed a beat. So I am a fan. No way for example that I could justify the price of a plasma cutter, given that I...

    Joke Thread 4 (closed).

My favourite was when he was interviewed just before going on stage in I think Brazil? Was the biggest ever crowd for a gig at the time. Reporter " So what's it like to perform for 250,000 people (or whatever the figure was)? Freddie "No idea, I haven't done it yet"

Wadkin Lathe RS - Banjo Attachment... Dismantling

If it is a taper pin then sometimes they really don't want to know. Then you have a choice. Can you leave it alone and still do what you need to? If it absolutely has to come out then you may have to drill it out. Use a drill no bigger than the small end, then a fine tapered reamer. A right PITA...

Can anybody beat this for old equipment

These are a couple of the watches I have used it on. On the bottom a very rare Waterbury Clock Company "Duke" circa 1893. To give you some idea of scale the one above is a more conventionally sized Hamilton. The Waterbury is interesting in that it is effectively the prototype for the Ingersoll...

Can anybody beat this for old equipment

Hard to say precisely to be honest. The company was founded in 1876, and this is the earliest design, as it appears in their original catalogue. They do a variety of sizes. Mine is a 405, if I remember correctly a 406 is smaller and a 404 is bigger in terms of the size balance wheels they are...

Can anybody beat this for old equipment

Nothing to do with woodworking, but this is my watchmaking balance tool. Mainly used for truing up wobbly balance wheels in watches. The staff or axle of the wheel is spun between the ends, and the guide plate used to check the rim runs true. Similar to the stands for truing bike wheels, but on...

    Sharpening twist drill bits freehand

Sorry but reminded me of a ditty called Ode to Norman or similar. Many verses one of which goes " Sometimes he takes me from behind. You try it girls you'll always find you get a most delightful grind, I often do with Norman" :)

    bandsaw tyres.

The trick with the drill makes it an absolute doddle, very clever.
