    Price of walnut

+1 for SLH; they quote ~£50 + VAT for a 2400 x 19 x 140mm ABW, or ~£105+ at 265mm wide. I've bought boards 'blind' from them before and they were very decent. HTH Pete

    FAO Steve Maskery : Patreon

Have to agree. I was a little surprised to see another woodworker (the first patreon link in the first post) dissed like this, especially when they're doing exactly what Steve Maskery seems to aspire to i.e. making a living from online content they've created. You may not like what he makes (and...

    BROADBAND WOE'S

+1 for Virgin. I pay £40-ish/month for 125Mb and they generally deliver this or very close:- The ping can vary a bit but I'm not a gamer so <shrug>. I could get it cheaper if I put our TV with them as well, but I like the flexibility of having them separate, and I want the fastest broadband I...

    Using a track saw vertically

I've done this a few times - usually opening up previously-boarded alcoves to fit wardrobes into. It's do-able, but I wouldn't want to do it regularly as it's quite hard to keep the saw plunged and move it up the track - especially at the bottom of the cut. Putting the board on an incline (as in...

    Crowd funding - any experience?

Wasn't meant in any derogatory way, and I hope it wasn't taken as such; just that as an ex-professional photographer I shot some quite nice pictures at what are now laughable resolutions, and like your videos, there's just no way to make them look better. And hence my comment on 4K; if you're...

    Hong Kong

Was there last week - amazing place. As others have said, a day's not a lot of time, but the open-topped bus ride is a worthwhile way of spending 90 minutes. We took a cab up the peak, and rode the funicular down; long, long queues to get the funicular up, at all times of day. If you have time...

    Crowd funding - any experience?

Well, Steve doesn't seem to be making any money from selling DVDs, so it's all a bit moot really... FWIW YouTubers generally seem to get $200-$300 per 100k views from their share of advertising - you'll need a large back-catalogue of *very* popular videos to make a living from that, tbh. Which I...

    Tape measure for inside measurements

I use Talmeter measures for this - they used to make a really nice 3m measure with a 25mm blade, but was sadly discontinued when Hultafors took them over, and I find the 3m tape with the 16mm blade a bit lightweight; the 6m tape is good, but a bit chunky in the pocket. Unfortunately I broke the...

    Bedroom wardrobe - WIP

Those screwfix jobbies are simple runners - they work fine, but are nowhere near the same quality as Blum or Grass, which are soft-close; you can get ball-race runners that are sold as 'soft close' but IME are more like a cash register drawer snapping shut - not nice. Personally I like the...

Never realised how I would miss internet connection

If you're using the standard Apple Mouse you can set up the right (secondary) click from System Preferences > Mouse > Point & Click; there are no buttons, you just click on the right-hand side of the mouse - works a treat. More likely that you're on OS X 10.11 - El Capitan ;) As Roger said, ...

    Automatic Cupboard Latches

Yep. Just fitted some Blum tip-on for doors with unsprung hinges and they work very well. Minimal additional 'gap' required to operate the mechanism. The piston can be drilled into the carcass or surface mounted with an additional fitting. HTH Pete

MRMDF built-in/fitted wardrobe design! Comments please!

Ah, OK. Getting them to cut all your loose tenons and all the rails and stiles is where the costs will hit you, as they generally charge per cut. I get my yard to rip a sheet of 22mm into 100/80/65/whatever_mm strips for the rails and stiles and chop them to length myself. The loose tenons are...

MRMDF built-in/fitted wardrobe design! Comments please!

Seems OK - I pay a bit less for 18mm (~£20/sheet) and a bit more for 6mm & 22mm ( ~£12.50 & £36) in London. Not sure why the list includes some 3050 x 1220 boards though - from what I can see there's nothing longer than 1700mm on your drawing?? Cutting charge seems a bit steep, though obviously...

    Router for door hinges

Same here - I've had two die on me at critical moments during jobs, won't touch them again; cheap, but definitely nor cheerful. I have an old makita that I keep just for hinges, and a home-made jig - works fine for the quantity of doors that I do. Cheers, Pete

MDF shaker doors and Wealden groovers!?

I must be super-cautious; I use the 1/4" (6.35mm) heavy duty groover with a bearing, puts a 22mm groove all round, with panels a few mm undersize. Anyone used the Wealden T&G set for doors with glass panels? Just wondering if they'd be strong enough?? Cheers, Pete
