Work Trousers - why the extra pockets?

You'll probably find that the nail pockets (or 'flappy' pockets, lol) will tuck into the normal pockets - they usually do if they're not removable. Try it - but sure, cut them off of you're pos. you'll never use them. I tend to wear TuffStuff work trousers, and it drives my nuts that the pockets...

    Palm Sander

Only just seen this - sorry to hear of your woes with the Bosch; mine's been fine. Agree about the approach taken by Festool (and yes, I still prefer my RTS 400) re the pads; on the older sanders (DT / RT 400) the pads were interchangeable (albeit a screwdriver job) so it was a conscious...

    Amazon Echo

Only if your NAS has Bluetooth, or can take e.g. a USB Bluetooth adapter. Otherwise, if you want to play your own music then you have to upload it to your Amazon Music Library (250k track limit). HTH Pete

    Amazon Echo

I have a couple of the Echo 'Dots' - basically an Echo without the bigger speaker (have sonos in the house and plenty of Bluetooth speakers around, don't need any more!). I was moved enough to write a rare (for me) amazon review on it, I'll link it below, but the short answer is, if someone's...

    Quick practical question. Curved MDF.

Presumably the curves form the sides of the structure; apologies if I have the wrong end of the stick bit I don't think I'd fancy gluing strips of MDF to the skin *then* bending them onto the curves. Is it too late to get them CNC'd with slots in for MDF 'ribs'? Alternatively, a central curve...

Where to find quality timber in west london

Just be aware that they're only open Saturday mornings. Also, you can't be far from me either - I'm just North of Wendell Park, 5 mins from Fergusons. Cheers, Peter

Where to find quality timber in west london

Moss & co were a real old-timey yard - must admit I thought they'd closed down, hadn't realised they'd moved so thanks for that! Also haven't been to Hanson's for years, good to hear they're still around. Ferguson's are my local yard - A J Ferguson - between Shepherd's Bush and Acton, just off...

    Nail gun

Short answer to your questions; no, and no. I’m no expert on nail guns, but happy to give my two-penneth, and be put right when others pitch in... The term ‘nail gun’ sadly covers everything from superfine headless pinners, through to first fix, or framing nailers. They’re often referred to in...

    Palm Sander

Big fan of the RTS400, I was a bit lost when one of mine died semi-suddenly so I bought the Bosch GSS 160 as a stop-gap - cracking little sander, same pad size as the Festool. With the benefit of hindsight I wish I'd bought the GSS 160 Multi with interchangeable pads - I may yet! Will be doing...

    Bow fronted bookcase/storage

Ah, OK. Thanks - always interesting to see how others approach things. Cheers, Pete

    Bow fronted bookcase/storage

Lovely job! I find the lack of a back a bit troubling (hope the wall it's going against is nice and straight!) but a very nice piece. Can I ask how much workshop time you put into it? Sorry, edited to add a couple of practical questions. Are the cabinets a single piece or do they break down...

Best tool for cutting down the grain for 2" thick hardwood

+1 on the welcome. Festool TS75 would do the job, but not within budget. Screwfix have an Erbauer that claims 67mm depth of cut that might just about do the job, assuming that cut-depth includes the guiderail... HTH, Pete

Kitchen Cabinet doors - soft close AND push to open?

Interesting, thanks; never occurred to me that soft-close hinges would have enough 'oomph' to push the tip-on/tipmatic piston back home; seems like it shouldn't work, that they'd find some kind of equilibrium - I'll have to try it out! FWIW like Blum, Grass state their tipmatic is for use with...

Which flexible non shrink/crack filler to use?

Use MR MDF if you can - much better board for not much more money and minimal 'fluffiness'. I use a water-based primer/undercoat straight onto the cut surface applied with a foam roller; rub it smooth once dry and apply a second coat, followed by your usual process for topcoating, once dry...

    Carcases advice

I'll second that, though the one I like to use is Junckers Strong floor lacquer - great stuff, though always good to see what others use. Cheers, Pete

    Basic brad nailer/compressor?

That'd be Maestri - bullet-proof nailer/stapler, great tool, but really quite expensive now. Completely agree re. electric vs air; I'll just say that with a compressor, while you may start out with an 18ga pin gun you have the option of cheaply adding say, a 21ga veneer pinner or a 16ga 2nd fix...

    camera insurance

From what I can remember 'back in the day' camerasure and photoguard were the ones that offered any kind of mechanical breakdown element to their 'all risks' policies. Again, from what I can remember the cameras had to out of warranty, obviously, and the policies weren't cheap. HTH, Pete

Bosch 10.8v VS Makita 10.8v Drill? Which one?

I also have the Bosch and have been very happy with it. I went Bosch not Makita as at the time they had a wider range of tools that fit the battery, and that range has expanded since then. The Bosch you link to above (btw in case you hadn't realised, it's a bare tool I.e. no battery or charger...

    Bench top bandsaw

@ColeyS1 Is it the BAS261? Be interested in how you find it - been thinking about the small Record but been put off by all the tales of woeful quality control/delivery damage, and Metabo hasn't been on my radar :/ Cheers, Pete

    The Grand Tour

I think Camilla Long (in a pre-show interview with the three of them) summed it up pretty well when she called it "Top Gear, but with bigger tits..." Yes, all bit obvious, and trying a bit too hard; totally agree that the mock fight and dying celebrities were puerile. Clarkson's writing mostly...
