    Lidl DIY tools 6th June

I think proprietary is an apt description - Lidl/Parkside are the only people I'm aware of who make use of that specific profile for the guiderail - a standard central rib, but an open 'C-shape' channel at the left-hand side. As you say, others go their own way with the guiderail design and this...

Domino Jointers Are they really worth it, or just a gimic

20 years from the first filing, so perhaps as early as 2024?? But I think it’ll play out more like the tracksaw market; established manufacturers first, coming in at the same - or slightly lower - price point that Festool have established. Then, years after, we get OK quality copies, before...

    Fed up sharpening pencils

Always used a box of Staedtler Norris (and a Helix mechanical sharpener) but recently converted to a box of BicMatic mechanical pencils for the same price as the staedtler. 👌

Domino Jointers Are they really worth it, or just a gimic

Yep, that’s mine; it’s why I put up with its many shortcomings - an honest to goodness, small affordable commercial workspace that‘s 30 seconds away - if I have to wait to cross the road. If only it was a little bit bigger... 😂👍

Domino Jointers Are they really worth it, or just a gimic

Thanks @sometimewoodworker , @NormanB , @Derek Cohen (Perth Oz) 👍 Not sure this thread was ever about woodwork, but yes, let's give it a shot. So @TRITON, have you bought that Domino yet? 🤔 My two-penneth, for what it's worth. The Domino's a brilliant machine - yes, it's a bit pricey but it...

Domino Jointers Are they really worth it, or just a gimic

😆 Thank you. And please, your thread - post / repost what you like! My workshop is about 280 sq ft but split into two rooms, so the actual workspace side isn’t much bigger than yours - though you can’t beat a decent chunk of storage! I had to be reasonably organised just to get thought the kind...

Domino Jointers Are they really worth it, or just a gimic

Well, leaving aside the silliness of that paragraph (I was earning money from Adsense while I was still making a living from fitted furniture, and I have no idea how much credibility Piers Morgan's left foot has - do tell) that's absolutely your right to hold those opinions, no matter how wrong...

Domino Jointers Are they really worth it, or just a gimic

Cheap & cheerful, yes - that’s the point, you don’t have to spend £1500 on a Zeta and 70p per Tenso to get a self-clamping connector. And like the Tenso, Domino, Dowel, Clamex, biscuit etc... it’s for butt and bevel joints. The carcass jig that I made in the above video, yes, that’s for the 90°...

    Lidl or MacAllister Plunge Saw

Yes, as I said earlier, the Erbauer is a dead ringer for the *larger* Triton saw, the TTS185; the TTS1400 is the regular saw, like the Titan, MacAllister etc... 👍

    Lidl or MacAllister Plunge Saw

Be aware that the Erbauer has an odd blade size which reduces blade choice dramatically. The Erbauer is a dead ringer for the larger Triton saw - I compared them in a recent video, preferred the cheaper Erbauer tbh - so some spare parts may well be interchangeable, though bizarrely neither...

Decent brand of general purpose/wood screws

I’ve been using Spax screws and Fischer Duopower plugs pretty much exclusively for about a decade, and have had no issues whatsoever. This was for paying customers, who would certainly have mentioned it if their cabinetry was falling off the walls. 🤷‍♂️👍

    Finishing sanders

It was my Hyvst sander that Keith was using in that video! There's a very similar Sealey branded version that's not much more than I paid for the Hyvst, after shipping etc... that won't have the warranty concerns. It's a great sander, been using it regularly since buying it without any issues...

    Electric branding iron......

All my brands have come from mike at Outpost Workshop - excellent quality, great service, and a nice electric heater as well. 👍

    Quiet compressors and pin nailer

Yes, just light workshop nailing - 16g, 18g. I’ve bought a 23g (cheap arrow one) but haven’t received it yet. I don’t spray any more, but when I did I had other solutions, as you say. 👍 HTH

    Quiet compressors and pin nailer

I’ve had the Hyundai 8 litre for a couple of months and it’s really very quiet, especially in comparison to the small Stanley one I had previously. Silent? Umm, no, but very comfortable to be in the same room when it’s working. It has a stupidly (criminally?) short mains cable, but that aside...

Edges of MDF prior to paint, filler, edge banding or lots of sanding?

As above, use decent quality MR MDF (Medite, Finsa) and you don’t need to do anything special with the edges. And as Bob says, unless you’re doing this on a CNC that seems a very convoluted way to go about making a door.

    Double sided tape?

Which D/s tape is it? I use 3M when I want a solid bond, but just basic decorators’ merchant stuff for general use. Warming the tape up helps the adhesive lift more easily. Also curious which vid you were watching where I did this?? 🤔 🤷‍♂️

Water based paint, airless sprayer and orange peel

No problem. Yes, and be fair my Graco absolutely did the job that I bought it for, but longer-term I'm afraid it's not worked out well at all, and I have talked about the issues in other videos - most recently the 'my last build' series (playlist here). There will be another follow-on vid about...

Water based paint, airless sprayer and orange peel

I never had the problem spraying Helmi through an UltraMax, and I’ve never found the need to thin any Tikkurila paints or primers - they were always good to go, straight from the tub - and no need for additives like floetrol, in my experience. What primer/undercoat are you using? Did that spray...
