    Domino Jig

I have to build some louvre doors and thought this might be a job for the Domino. I needed a slot cut on an angle though so after a bit of thought I came up with this home made jig. Yes I know it's a bit Heath Robinson but it does work believe it or not as can be seen in this next shot. I had...

    First domino job

Well Charlie I have two of them now, a cheap Ferm one and a quality Elu one! Think I will hang on to the Elu just in case as it will still have it's place in the shop. Besides I still have around two thousand biscuits to use. P.S. I have been waiting for someone to make a cheaper...

    First domino job

No Flynnwood, the mitres are cut on the table saw and then cleaned on the surface planer. No jigs or tricks just need to make sure it is tight against the fences and a steady feed rate. HTH.

    First domino job

Well I used the Domino for real today. I have a job to make two MDF cubes to hang on a wall. Being a glutton for punishment it is another job with long mitres again! Easier this time as they were only 12" long. ;) After cutting the mitres I cut the Domino slots. I then had a dry fit...

Have you thought of going to China for you holiday?

You are right Bugbear, they are very friendly and helpful. just about everyone I met there wanted to speak to me in English and I hardly had a chance to use the 'little' mandarin I know. I lost count of the amount of meals we were invited to by everyone from the Mayor to the humble student. I...

Have you thought of going to China for you holiday?

  Yes I have been there a few times and can confirm that their translations are a little unusual to say the least! One that springs to mind is the translation for a tumble dryer, 'little ray of sunshine on the wall' There is also a trend for shop signs to read in...

What's wrong with my planer/thicknesser?? Blown capacitor?

Not sure if this helps but my Jet surface planer had a similar problem and it turned out to be the start capacitor. Mine didn't blow any fuses although it is on a 16 amp dedicated supply but it did spin for a second before stopping when the switch was pressed. cheap enough to give it a try first...

    Even more oak!

Well over the last couple of days I have been working on the tall cupboard. I got the shelves edged and sanded ready for the finish. After making up the top and bottom of the unit I tried it in a dry fit with the coving in place although it isn't finished yet. I will template the cornice in...

Problems with Makita LXT batteries ?

Well I have certainly not been impressed with my batteries. I use both of my drill drivers on a daily basis and the first Makita battery gave up after just one year! the replacement cheapo gave up after about two months! I am now down to one Makita battery and one cheapo. I am loath to replace...

    Oak Internal Shutters

Good lord Rog, do you ever sleep? :o Do you live on a diet of Red Bull? They are very nice looking shutters and I know just what you mean about those repetitive sort of jobs. I once had 16 raised panel wardrobe doors to make and I was sick of the sight of them in the end. At the...

    Even more oak!

I got started on the doors today and got them built ready for assembly. I cut the grooves on the table saw and then mortised the rails. They are pretty big doors at 6' 6" I finally got the panels fitted at the end of the day.

    Even more oak!

Got back in the shop today and made a start on the tall cupboard. I got the parts cut out and routed for the Tonk strips then got the lipping on the top and bottom of the unit. With those done I made the plinth for it to sit on. I attached the bottom to it as this unit will be assembled in...
