    tattoo prejudice

I am afraid I am with the majority here and hate them. I would be put off employing someone with tattoos and hate to see it on women. If someone wants a tattoo I have no objections to them being discreet hidden ones but not the bold blatant ones a lot of the young have today. A friend of mine...

    Still here

For the past couple of weeks I have been working on a rental property so not much workshop time. Now I have finished the job and got back into the workshop I thought I would catch up on a few things...like clean the workshop at last. After fitting all the internal doors on the rental I cadged...

    Sad Day

It gave me a shock as he was the same age as me! He was certainly a very funny man and a good actor. Just goes to show you never know what's around the corner. I am sure he will have St Peter in stitches up there though. :D

just the way I work and i don't normally make boxes, but I spray the interior first before assembly masking off the areas to be glued. Once it is all assembled mask off the interior and spray the outside. HTH.

    struggling...

I also suffer with my back for the past 20 years or so after a lifting accident. I use Nathan's method in my workshop to help with moving large panels around or enlist the help of friends/family with lifting large pieces on site. I find customers are pretty flexible with times and can wait until...

what to do in isle of wight

I remember years ago visiting the island and seeing Blackgang chine. I also seem to remember there being some sort of fairground on the cliff side which apparently fell into the sea the following year! That was also my first and last trip on a hovercraft. :D

    Making Corbels

I made some similar to this a couple of years ago. I split the corbel vertically into two sections and routed out the central grooves using a radius sunk bead cutter. The router was placed on the side with a template and guide and one groove cut in each section. Then all the pieces were glued...

    Why UKWorkshop?

I just joined to see how long Doctor Bob lasted before he was kicked off again. Seriously though I was a keen hobby woodworker and had read books watched joiners etc and wanted to improve. I stumbled on the site while looking for advice on a project and have stayed since. I have learnt a...

Don't buy cheap tools - Rant

Around 10 years ago I bought a cheap SDS drill/breaker from B&Q (power pro) It is still going strong and has taken a lot of hammer in that time. Not a bad buy for £49.95! :o I also have a large electric planer from Lidl (Parkside) and this is still working well after 6 years again this has done...

    Dovetail jig - size question

If it's speed and consistency you want you won't go far wrong with the Dakota jig from Rutlands. OK it only cuts set, through dovetails, but is so easy to set up and use. Not to mention much cheaper than the others on the market.

Lumber Question - Using Cupped Boards

Snipe really does depend on the machine. I used to have an Elu 1161 P/T and could guarantee I would get some snipe on most boards. To help with this I used to support the timber by pushing up lightly on the end of the timber exiting the machine, it did help. I now have a large dedicated...
