    Ender 3 S1 Pro

I have an Ender 3 S1 Pro and was able to print pretty much out of the box. Auto bed levelling seems to need a bit of assistance (there's a couple of useful YT videos on that) and printing more complex shapes such as screw threads may need other parameters setting. I had to drop to 0.1mm...

    Record Power Sabre 450

I think I saw your first model in the despatch shed at Yandles this morning. Looked like it'd had a rough ride with the courier. I also pressed the button and will take delivery in a couple of weeks, once I've installed the 16a circuit and figured out how I'm going to get it down 2 flights of...

Charnwood w740 vs Record power 450?

Deals afoot today in Yandles. They have the Record Power team in so there's a few quid off. They also have a 450 with no packaging that's going for even less. I'd have nabbed it but wouldn't fit in the car. Might be worth a phone call if you can't make it in person.

Charnwood w740 vs Record power 450?

I think I might head down to the store tomorrow and see what gives. They were running a promotion last month where they'd bundle a pressure washer. Be interesting to see if they'd chuck in something more useful like the mitre gauge, wheels or expansion table.

Faithful no 4 smoothing plane in the box

Yeah, it seems the Faithfull quality is highly variable. You can just about see the scuff marks from a half hearted attempt to file out a cast defect around the mouth on the one I bought. The perils of an online purchase...

Faithful no 4 smoothing plane in the box

I used 180 degrees for my Faithfull plane - the mouth was so skewed I sent it right back to Amazon

Charnwood w740 vs Record power 450?

    Maybe just the 3-phase model?

Charnwood w740 vs Record power 450?

There's several UK stockists so I'm not sure that's quite right. Yandles have a note on their site to say they won't ship to the EU but I can't see anything on the RP site that would suggest the 450's not available in the UK.

Charnwood w740 vs Record power 450?

Thanks Tom. As a 100% Joe Soap I have a low level of confidence I wouldn't end up doing something stupid/dangerous with 3-phase so I'm inclined to play it safe where possible. The background info is very helpful though

Charnwood w740 vs Record power 450?

Interested to know which VFD you're using though - would you have a link to the same (or similar), please? Another thought on the Charnwood saws - the manual says 6mm minimum blade width, but the website says 10mm, so maybe that's not a concern after all. There do seem to be a lot of...

Charnwood w740 vs Record power 450?

I did contact Drives Direct on an inverter/VFD combo - allow for around £800 for both, £400 for just the VFD if the motor is dual-voltage. I'm waiting for the verdict from my sparks as to whether or not to fit a type C MCB and stay single-phase, or if I'll be forced to go three-phase. By the...

Charnwood w740 vs Record power 450?

Interesting. The cutting depth looks a bit lower, at 255mm, so might be an issue if you're thinking of cutting up some logs. The W750 has more capacity for a similar price to the RP S 450. The minimum blade width is 10mm on the W740, which might be too wide for tight curves. I imagine you could...

    What bandsaw do I need?

Yes, the N4400 is a nice option if you can power it. It is however a bit more expensive than the Laguna or Sabre 450, especially once you've added on the guides, etc.

    What bandsaw do I need?

Curious to know why you're leaning more towards the Laguna rather than the Record Power Sabre 450? I'm about to make a similar call, but think the larger table, wider blade option and the electromagnetic brake of the 450 might be worth having

Power options for a new bandsaw

Unfortunately that's the maximum current given the length of the cable. This is consistent with the voltage drop calculator (Voltage Drop Calculator) - 3-core SWA - 60M long - Running a lighting circuit - Underground - Ambient temp 20 deg C - Touching layout - 1 circuit If anything, 40A for...

Power options for a new bandsaw

The SWA is 3-core, which also supplies the earth. I don't know how to categorise the domestic supply - standard? I don't have a 3-phase, for what it's worth. Partly the reason for my original post was that I'd contacted Felder for a quote on an N2-35. Their 1.5kW motor requires a 16A type C...

Power options for a new bandsaw

Yup, that's the problem. I figured maybe a 20A MCB type C in the house, with a new 16A type C just for the bandsaw in the workshop. Any faults on the other circuits in the workshop should be caught by the existing 16A workshop type B MCBs. I'd have thought the house MCB would need to be type C...

    re-level wonky cabin

The tuin website has some useful advice on shims: Base requirements for Log Cabins |Tuin : Tuindeco Blog I have one of their log cabins and was able to compensate for some unevenness in the base by jacking up the corners and inserting plastic shims (of the kind used for fitting windows) between...

Power options for a new bandsaw

Indeed. I do have 32mm water pipe through which I'm running ethernet cable, however too small for 10mm SWA. Yes, the question was more about efficiency, whether or not a 3-phase motor uses significantly less input power than a 1-phase motor for the same output. If I understand correctly, any...

Power options for a new bandsaw

@Ttrees, many thanks for the comprehensive reply, lots to ponder there. A couple of points that may help: I'd planned to put in a new circuit on the workshop CU specifically for the bandsaw, so could easily drop in a type C MCB. I found quite a useful guide here: MCB (Miniature Circuit...
