Startrite t30 Spindle moulder 240v advice please :-)

Am I right in saying the three hole cutters/limiters are not compatible with whitehill ? Is there a standard cutter retention system, ‘euro’, and would I be wise to stick with one instead of having mixed maybe ? I’m a good overthinker apologies 😂

Startrite t30 Spindle moulder 240v advice please :-)

I’ve got three or four of these, which I’m guessing are as safe as a block with limiter. As you say, so long as they are sharp. Although I’ve just realised this would be safer if it had more cutters instead of just two .. right ?

Thanks Deema. I was curious why a modern cutter should be without the limiters. Seems odd for a product of this century. Limiters are for novices then. Or just inherently safer. It seems I still have a lot to learn. I’m not firing this up with the aim of cutting anything until I know more...

When I get chance I’ll take a pic of the three blocks I got with it, and you can maybe advise which I might need to bin or keep ! One is CMT. Oh I am taken with orange lol. Machine had very little use from new, sat in the chaps workshop since 90s maybe ? Tenon/sliding table assy is included

Startrite t30 Spindle moulder 240v advice please :-)

Ok, good info. There’s no alloy apart from the fence and sliding table components. It’s very chunky, and is a 3hp confirmed with motor plate photo. I could say ye or nay on this just now. I don’t want a Sedgwick weight/size machine… I won’t do it justice. I know your world is cast iron is a...

Startrite t30 Spindle moulder 240v advice please :-)

Update , just popped down to Bristol to see the Startrite, and it all seems fine until he starts it up. Makes a hell of a noise. So we turn it off and rotate the spindle by hand, there’s a growling bearing. Damn. He’s fine with the noise, fair enough, but it’s not something I can live with and...

I’m now looking for cutter block & knives advice please. I’m seeing WHITEHILL a lot, I’m aware CMT are a good make maybe. eBay can be scary. Doors I’m wanting to make doors in a traditional way , so mortice tenon, raised panel stuff maybe ? I’m open to ideas. Which to buy I find online choices...
