thanks andy there was a cover on the belt pullys , but had to remove it as the belt jumped from the pullys, it was rivets together, ok just had a look at the chuck system and the jacobs/drill chuck is screwed on

hi , just bought my first lathe (2nd hand from flea market) £20 , now it does work (after fiddling with the drive belt tension , it has drill style chuck so i was wondering what kind of drive spur would work best i have no idea about tapers etc . the lathe itself has no brand name on it...
