Moving to South France - Advice Needed.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it/him out.. Life is always bitter sweet.

Moving to South France - Advice Needed.

That was how I had thought I'd do it (palletised) ..I guess my workbench & long boards will need 2 pallets fixed together. I couldn't do my whole house as I have nowhere to store it all before the collection. However, a removal Co would do all the import/export paperwork for me & if the French...

Moving to South France - Advice Needed.

Hello Gents, It seems that I am moving to the south of France in the near future & I could do with some advice from others who live there/have moved there please. I have my workshop to move, but it's unrealistic to think I can take it all, so I need to decide on what to take & what to sell...

    2.8m Long Table - conclusion

..that was going to be my question to you all. .. 100 of my own.. yes, really.. I cannot remember if that includes delivery to Winchester (from Brum). To say the days flew by in a few blinks of an eye would be about right. In my defence, working on a 2.8 m top in a 3.4m x 5m workshop which...

Steam / relax drying kilns - Sauno

You want to know what it does & why ? You make a vented box with a circulating fan & a heater, fill it with wood, add water & get it slowly up to steaming. Once the steam gets into the timber it equalises the moisture throughout the timber (because it's wetter in the middle to start with). Then...

    2.8m Long Table - conclusion

Thanks Jacob, It was 2 part super-clear casting or lay-up resin. I cannot remember exactly but it takes something like 24hrs to cure at 18C & it was cold, my workshop is in a old, cold factory with no south facing windows & the knots took 4 lots of filling because it just kept on sinking into...

    2.8m Long Table - conclusion

Hello Gents, At last I have some spare time to get online & tell you how it all turned out & thank you for your advice. It went really well in the end - phew !! The customer & the interior designer were very pleased with it & it went in place without any hiccups & it is solid. It was a bloody...

Steam / relax drying kilns - Sauno

Hello Shed9, I have just lost a more detailed reply..grr. I have 1 & from poor memory there is no hi tech - just common commercial catering spare parts (phial & capillary thermostat, scroll fan with heater etc) & instruction on how to build a foam box. Foam box was not good. I dried a load...

    2.8m Long Table; 4 or 6 legs?

Oh Bol)(*& !.. my dogs have just deleted a really long reply by jumping on me as I was typing.. I am cream crackered & 1/2 asleep but just got time to say thanks for your replies & 1 quick question. The table is coming on very well apart from me being 30mm short of timber for the long aprons...

    2.8m Long Table; 4 or 6 legs?

Yes, from South Africa as I know of them (& further afield no doubt as the 'black' /***** /bantu cultures & languages have the same common & recent origin from central Africa).. but I spelt it wrongly by mistake a long time ago & I kept it. It is really not the best thing to associate myself...

    2.8m Long Table; 4 or 6 legs?

Hello Djz, Nice tables. They look like they could withstand anything. What is the top's thickness & the apron dimensions please? Is that an architrave under the top.. I have never seen that before. Thanks Togs

    2.8m Long Table; 4 or 6 legs?

The top is surprisingly thin & the legs suspiciously coloured..

    2.8m Long Table; 4 or 6 legs?

I've made several tables at this length, four legs is perfectly adequate provided the side aprons rails are at least 30mm thick. Your proposed six leg plan has a few serious problems though. You might get away with that centre joint for a few years in a very quiet household, but two or three...

    2.8m Long Table; 4 or 6 legs?

Hello Pete, That was my 2nd thought .. but again I dismissed it as no one else has done it... & that it also looks odd. Odd is what I usually like but something just didn't feel right... also if the floor isn't level then that'd lead to more wobbling. Togs

    2.8m Long Table; 4 or 6 legs?

Ha .. that's it. It's stood the test of time too & yes that extra overhand at the end looks good. Nice one Jacob. This is my original

    2.8m Long Table; 4 or 6 legs?

Ace ..Have you got a skirt/stretcher/rail M&T'd into the legs, how old is your table ? All the photo's of long tables had thicker looking tops.. not sure I have the stock to do 45mm though !.. Thanks Togs

    2.8m Long Table; 4 or 6 legs?

My poor drawing does not show the overhand of 75mm each way but I can defiantely remeasure to bring them in more along the length. I haven't noticed the legs interfering with moving the of chairs on my existing table.. but that's not to say they haven't...hhmm??? The bread boards are also for...

    2.8m Long Table; 4 or 6 legs?

Ah, yes.. now you have pointed it out I can see that the centre board is a weakness. It's looking more likely I need a bigger van. I left it in beause I was sure 6 legs was the best option. I put the legs 75mm in from the edge as it leaves 630 per person..again based on the awful 6 leg plan...
