Infill plane - is it worth the asking price?

Thanks Jimi.. top advice again. A closer look at the top rivet is needed ..& I see the cap screw on your beauty is hardly extended so the blade is questionable as to it's suitability more than it's quality... never thought of that before. £80 for a handle - ouch !

Infill plane - is it worth the asking price?

Hiya Richard, Great advice as usual. You've a critical eye that I need to develope.. The asking price is £85 so they were not taking the sprinkle. I thought infill planes were just another way of making a plane & not specifically for fine finishing only- perhaps the design of choice before...

Infill plane - is it worth the asking price?

Hiya Mick, at £45 it'd be in my hot hands already !..the asking price is twice that. Hiya Jimi, £80 with the damage you recon.. so then they go for much more in better condition?... seems a lot but what do I know? The sole seemed sound apart from the hinge pin(?) ..saying that I did not put a...

Infill plane - is it worth the asking price?

Hello Gents, I saw this infill today & got excited but it seems pricey so I would like your valued advice please. It has/had a badly broken handle that has just about been glued back in place..the blade is nice enough - Harrington/Hallinsons of Sheffield. The seller said that alone was worth...

    Upholstered chair feet - how?

Evening Gents.. ahh at last an early night to catch up on things. Thanks for your replies. So, a Queen Anne leg it is..(or foot as in my case). With legs that shape Queen Anne couldn'tve stopped a pig running up a gully could she ?! The name is a classic bit of dark British p*ss taking me...

..didn't they have nice looking women doing the collections & drop offs.. & do a topless calandar ? Good ol' fashioned marketing.

    Upholstered chair feet - how?

Hello Gents, I have an ambition to make a classic chair that is almost fully upholstered but which has exquisite front feet setting the whole thing off.. (I'm sure you know the type but if not I have a few pics). Anyway..if they are not the turned type but claws, paws or other shapes then how...

    Hand worked Oaken Dish

That looks cool..quite retro. It's well finished. You say you are short of things to make ..could you get interested in carving chair feet ? I am hoping that one day I'll make upholstered chairs with very cool feet (a classic style/idea)..but I haven't a clue on how to make the feet (except the...

Where to buy oak wood for E15 Backenzahn Stool?

Air dried timber of those dimensions could be 20 - 30 years old or more & rare I'd imagine.. hence the price. Try kiln dried. Crispy - you make a valid point.. my initial instinct was that it was a rip off, but of course price is not just based on materials ..& overheads can be a killer.

My first infill plane. I love it !

The gent I bought it off said the name was not a title .. someone had a sense of humour. I ish I had more time to research him/them. Jack, I don't quite follow what your saying.. have you been ganged up upon & forced to buy a plane you are not happy with for some extortionate price & are...

    It had to be done!!

Wow..very nice. How do you decide on the measurements? How do you even make/mark out the octaganal(?) blank? How did you make the ferules? Why copper not brass? (..questions, questions..)

Where to buy oak wood for E15 Backenzahn Stool?

..yes really big dowels or square wedged pegs ..the bigger the better (within reason). I can't imagine woodworking without a van...but I know what a hassle having a van is like in London. As for seeing more than a piece of furniture - I get that ..but I don't. I find it annoying to make...

Where to buy oak wood for E15 Backenzahn Stool?

Lomisz... you could try asking your local tree surgeon. They usually cut oak a lot smaller than what you'll need but some do branch out (ahem) into timber supplies or they might be kind enough to do you a favour. They sell european //Russian oak 'sleepers' in some garden centres who might...

    dust extractor electric question/help

This shouldn't break the bank.. http://www.screwfix.com/p/philex-83007r ... tAodZ3YATg & the clamp is useful for testing amperage. If you have Put the leads in (there's only 1 way to do this), with VAC selected, touch 1 lead to possible live & other to a known earth - if you get a reading...

    dust extractor electric question/help

There should be a live, neutral & earth wire.core in that 3 core flex. You want to switch the live (otherwise the unit is always live - not best practise). You could use a light switch to do this but it won't be advisable.. you could've put a plug on that flex & plugged it in to a socket...

    building a vikingship

..if not 2000, then 1500 ?? I thought they came across this way after the Romans left (+- AD 450 ??)..but must have been doing it for a very long time before that to be so skilled...no? Would they have had steel tools by then? I see they had steel nails. Old or new - all very impressive.
