I'm worried about what people will think after I die...

You make fair points, but there is always a BUT. Paid more in N. I. Contributions than you will ever see as pension? Yes, but your N. I, contributions cover “health insurance“ as well. My firm had BUPA cover at one time. The payments for that made your eyes water. You also need somewhere to...

    Screwfix customer service

Not too sure about that. But several times they have had bits on the shelf that have been out of stock at other “go to” suppliers. Maybe I just got lucky. They used to send me discount vouchers from time to time. Suppose it depends on what you want.

    Screwfix customer service

I had one come through the post a couple of months ago - no. 145, Spring 2021. I must agree I prefer a book to the online catalogue. Sometimes I like to scribble in the margin….

EVs again - the sensible approach

I must hold up my hand and confess to an affection for trains, particularly of the steam kind. My father worked for British Rail for over 40 years, and he often said that he couldn’t retire quick enough. It was often quoted at the time that freight moved around the rail network at an average...

Did you see the report that boilers sales are to stop 2025

Yes, but; land covered in solar panels is land not available for food production. You cannot eat a dead solar panel.

Did you see the report that boilers sales are to stop 2025

And because the load is different, you don‘t get the same “sweep” of brightness change as you do with filament lamps. A particular type of dimmer switch perhaps?

    Electric vehicles

I’ll start things of my saying I have a petrol electric self charging hybrid - a Toyota if you are interested - and have no desire to go full electric. From where we live in Suffolk, if we want to visit our grandkids, then that is a (roughly) 400 mile round trip. Anyone got a car that will...

    private charge notice

Car speedo are actually designed to read a bit high. Will show about 33 when you are going 30 mph. You can trust your satnav.

    Advertising Standards Authority.

I remember reading, many years ago, that if your product is no good and not selling, don’t spend money improving it, just spend more on advertising.

    Dewalt customer service???

Oddly I have the same problem with a Makita (air powered) nail gun. It failed, they collected it, then deathly silence. This was well before Christmas. Suppose they are “non essential”, or whatever the phrase is, so are all furloughed. Luckily for me, I found a Aldi sourced nail gun that I had...

Button B got you your money back. Button A got pressed when you got an answer from the other end.

    Using Vac without a bag

Interesting thread. I use a Henry. In fact I use two, both bought secondhand. He original one is used for cleaning down swarf from my (metal cutting) lathe, and, in honesty, the hoses are pretty disgusting, with oil contamination and so on. The second is used exclusively for wood/sawdust. I like...

Where to buy blue paper roll these days

just as a side issue, Screwfix seems to have gone off a cliff lately. The last few orders I have put in, “Click & Collect” they have had no stock and I have had to wait for supply. Frustrating.
