    UKIWS? (Woodturning Symposium)

If you weren't a turner, would such a specialist symposium entice you to spend the money and spend a day attending ? I don't think so. If people are evangelical about 'spreading the word' and recruiting new participants, demonstrations of the basic skills at more general events like craft and...

    UKIWS? (Woodturning Symposium)

Much will depend on the standards they're aiming for. Delivering broadcast standard video is a major challenge, if they think that the sort Skype/phone quality they produce on their You Tube work is acceptable, the technology is simple and cheap now. What is more likely to be a problem is the...

    AWGB

I think you've been following the same threads, I'm sure you know exactly what and who I'm referring to. They've just lost in excess of £10k on the running of their last seminar, but any constructive criticism to help them prevent a similar disaster in future is dismissed. I just hope that AWGB...

    AWGB

No, I hadn't heard of it until last year. I did consider joining and going to the seminar this year, but there wasn't any options available to suit the day(s) I was free to attend. I've been watching their forum for a few months now. Whilst there's some outstanding work posted there in the...

    ELU Router

The good ones say 'made in Switzerland' ;-)

    ELU Router

+4 on going for the 96E They are great routers, beautifully engineered and lovely to use. There's still a good range of accessories around that fit them, so you won't be stuck unable to buy things like guide bushes etc. Elu made a useful little router table for the 96 series that you might find...

    Salutary lesson for joinery professionals

Very little has actually changed in communication, only the delivery method and the addition of spell checkers. What hasn't changed is the need to be able to set out definitions, intentions and terms with clarity. Judging by the dismal standard of many written posting here, it's clear that many...

    Salutary lesson for joinery professionals

Whilst that makes a degree of sense, it's not how the world works any more. In far too many fields of work, everything is 'out sourced' now. Unfortunately there's also too little education about the requirements and risks of self employment.

Festool domino - Has anyone made their own?

From what I can see on the web, it really isn't comparable to a Domino.

Festool domino - Has anyone made their own?

The jig may not cost much, but the tenons for it are 70p each! the same size domino tenons are 13p.

Festool domino - Has anyone made their own?

I think a DIY Domino would be almost self defeating. At the most basic level, the Dominos are just routers with built in jigs. Where they win is that they are brilliantly engineered to allow very fast and precise set up, plus so well built they'll survive hard professional life. The DIY ones...

    Alidi Laser Measure (Workzone)

I've got the same one and it seems to over read by a consistent 3mm here. As long as you know what the error is and it's consistent, it doesn't seem a problem to me. I haven't bothered to try and correct it. I can't see myself ever using one of theses for tasks that require that level of...

    Olive Ash Bowl

Beautiful work as ever Kim. A nicely elegant design that allows the figuring to take centre stage without distraction.

    Axminster

At Basingstoke they offered 10% off an item, lots of people buying things one at a time ;-/ I think they did the same at North Shields too. So hopefully........

Timber storage question. Large waterproof marquee / tent?

How about a self storage facility ? They tend to be warm(ish) and dry, certainly closer to a final domestic environment than an open tent/shed. I'd paint/seal the board ends to prevent over rapid drying though.

    E-bay experience

That might have worked in the last century, but anyone with a tiny bit of knowledge would bid using a different system, eg a mobile phone and avoid detection. As everyone says, just working out what something is worth to you and just bidding that is the best approach. Then just don't watch the...

    Lidl chisels

It's yet another pointless statistic. One needs to consider assets and the ability to earn, before one starts to talk about how 'well off' people are.

    Experience with anti fatigue mats?

BTHT and yes it hurts a lot, you have my sympathies. However I doubt that anti fatigue matting will help that particularly. It seems PF is usually caused by insufficient arch support in your shoes. Get good shoes with good arch support and the problem goes fairly soon. The matting may make life...

    Lidl chisels

Have you actually tried a set of these ? They really do give outstanding value for money and work very well indeed. I've yet to read a negative comment on them here and a lot of people here have bought a set (or two).
