Axminster daily deals, gone in seconds

That's it. Same price as on offer. I was just curious at how they'd make an offer and sell out so quickly. Most other days the deals have been unique, available all day and good value if you've been interested in the item anyway.

Axminster daily deals, gone in seconds

Interesting, that's a different bench being offered now. It was the 1700+cupboard being offered at 8:00

Axminster daily deals, gone in seconds

Just looked at today's Christmas 'daily deal', a workbench, but it's shown as sold out within 25seconds of being offered! http://www.axminster.co.uk/daily-deals/ I wonder how many of those they actually had ?

    Prevent Cracking of Walnut Disc

Weigh it, pop it on some bathroom scales every month or so and record the weight. When the weight stabilises, the moisture content has. Remember that indoors will be even drier than anywhere outdoors, so it'll take a long time and need to be brought in when it's stable outside and dried further...

    Markets in London?

Bristol is a perfect stop between London and Cornwall, or even Cornwall and Edinburgh.

Workzone F clamps - have I missed them?

I don't think you've missed any. I subscribe to the Aldi mail shots and haven't noticed a repeat offer. Lidl have just had a very similar offer a week or two ago though.

    Markets in London?

As others have said, there really isn't anywhere well known for finding old tools in London. Antique markets like Portobello in Notting Hill will have a few over restored, over priced bits that are just there to be sold as ornaments, but the sellers are savy enough to spot anything that might be...

    Does size matter?

With the OP looking at buying a lathe with that capacity, I wouldn't have expected a few extra quid on the price of a chuck to be a factor in which lathe to buy. The M33 is a pretty standard 'serious lathe' size, so bits are easy enough to come by. M30x1.5 ?? now that is obscure.

    Dare I ask!

No jig is totally foolproof, the truly incapable seem to be able to mess up anything ;-) The Tormek jigs are fine, but in the long term you need to keep an eye on any wear on the wheel, re-true it up and adjust the jigs to compensate. The SPE doesn't suffer those issues by design. The advantage...

    Dare I ask!

If you afford the Pro Edge go for it, at the very least take up Custard's offer of a demonstration. For turning tools; I used a normal grinder for years with home made jigs like Chas's ones above which work OK, but the SPE is a significant step forward in easy of use and versatility. I did try...

    Does size matter?

Really ?? The Axminster AK114 and the Versachuck are both great chucks and are available for just about every spindle thread available. I don't see this as any sort of issue in lathe choice, especially if buying new.

    Record nova 1624-44 outrigger

My Tyme Avon has a similar rest system, and as per the photos of the Nova rest, the part that fits onto the headstock has a base that is level with the base of the lathe's mounting for most of it's length. So if the lathe is close to the edge as you state, it ought to fit. If you've a solid...

    Grinding wheel dresser

Go for the diamond one. I tried the wheel type and it did a terrible job. Using a diamond dresser was a revelation.

Timber from a large felled Ash tree..

Hi Smuudge, Welcome to the forum. You don't say if you're a woodworker yourself or just don't want to see the wood wasted. Whilst a big Ash tree might be a good source of usable, potentially valuable, timber, it might also not be worth the cost of conversion. Especially if the rot extends far...

Axminster Hobby Series AWEPT106 Planer Thicknesser

Not at all. I think you need to do a bit of research on the differences before making a potentially expensive mistake.

Axminster Hobby Series AWEPT106 Planer Thicknesser

No, free delivery from Axminster with their own transport on new kit. The eBay warranty isn't usually the full year either(although for £64 they could extend the warranty). Plus if you order now or buy from a store (and they do have stock in at least my local store), the price includes a free...

    Bandsaw Buddy

Not had that email yet......<looks up product>...OIC The idea of a straight edge that fits onto the blade to help fence alignment seems a good one I haven't read of before.... but it could be made for next to nothing oneself (puts idea on my 'to do' list). All the other 'features'(aka gimmicks)...

Respirator - Trend Airshield Pro or something else

Other than 1 is better than 2, ten minutes on Google hasn't easily found any actual details of what that extra level of protection means in real use. Either will be better than none. Sure all other things being equal going for a better level of protection is obviously the better choice, but a...

Respirator - Trend Airshield Pro or something else

Thanks for that. I think a few important details have changed. The Powercap(and Axminster badged version APF10) now has the battery pack on the back of the helmet, which I'd assume will make a significance to the practicality of it in use. Visors overlays are also available now too. I think...
