    More sharpening woes

I don't think it makes any difference. Although as the SPE makes sharpening so much easier, I find I'm using it more often with a fine grit to just keeping a better edge on my tools more of the time. Which in turn makes life easier and results better.

Phones don't make mistakes, users do. It's easy enough to check a post before posting. You might also consider the extra spam added by these apps adds unnecessary clutter to posts that makes it harder to read on small screens. It's spam.

Well the junk TapaTalk and other phone apps add to posts is basically spam. Do you like getting spammed like that ?

Yes it's annoying. On the other hand, it also provides a good indication of those that either don't care about what they post, are too lazy to change the defaults or aren't capable of working out how to change the defaults. It never reflects well on the posters.

Nothing made up, but if you don't like supportive posts of good businesses that have gone through some trying times.........

Best way to prepare a burr

Very simply put; cutting out a bowl blank from within a bowl blank to be able to make two or more bowls from one blank in decreasing sizes. This video shows it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HchvzwjbieU The tools are quite expensive though http://www.toolpost.co.uk/pages/Turning ... elton.html

Best way to prepare a burr

Think about covering the cut surfaces in cheap PVA. Probably a better option than just relying on newspaper. The slower it dries, the less likely it is to split.

    Super glue

+1 on poundshop CA. I read of it recommended in the woodturning forum here and have been very impressed with it's performance.....and value.

    Yandles

This wasn't a case of posting "tittle tattle", but a supportive post praising a good supplier in the UK that has had recent problems. Yandles themselves say "I would also add that we are totally aware that the post was made in a kind and supportive way and that there was no harm meant to Yandles...

    Yandles

What my wife overheard in the craft store on Tuesday whilst I was buying timber. Luckily it sounds like what was said was inaccurate. I find it a little sad that they say "Yandles never makes any comments to anything written on the forums, although we do follow and enjoy reading the messages."...

    More sharpening woes

Hock irons are hollow ground. I don't see the point myself, as soon as you hone a second bevel the actual cutting edge becomes flat anyway. Or if you follow the convex curve brigade, it could become S shaped which seems even more perverse.

    More sharpening woes

I'm curious to understand why, it's not something I've ever seen mentioned elsewhere. Given the wide variation in both tools types and applications, I can't see how it would make a huge difference. I wonder how many could actually tell the difference in real world use when properly blind tested ?

    More sharpening woes

Are there really many people that would find the any difference between hollow sharpening and flat sharpening ? For me I only found things much better with sharper and more consistent edges on my tools. I can find no disadvantage to tools sharpened with the SPE instead of a 6" grinder myself.

Who is in and who is out?

It would be interesting to hear how many going on about the lack of accountability and democracy have ever done anything more than turn up at a ballot station every few years. Policies get made and changed by lobbying and direct contact. I'd guess only a very, very tiny minority ever have...

Thanks for the correction. Good to hear you'll still be going strong.

Who is in and who is out?

What this means in practice is that the leave camp don't accept the vast majority of projections and only accept projections based on very optimistic and favourable assumptions. There was an interesting interview with one of the few economists in favour of leaving on R4 earlier this week. What...

Who is in and who is out?

Remember Chernobyl ? It didn't matter where the prevailing wind direction was that day, it still made a mess of the North Wales sheep farming industry for many years. The UK has a interest in nuclear safety across Europe. Pollution doesn't stop at a border control.

Best way to prepare a burr

For someone who describes themselves as "new to turning" that might be a big ask. A lot will depend on just how big the burr is and what variety of timber it is. A first step, regardless, will be to seal the cut surfaces to try to control drying. Burrs can be lovely, but also challenging to...

Who is in and who is out?

You're right. It would take a desperate situation to need to return to the EU as we'd never be able to get the favourable deals we have now once we'd shunned them.
