    Adhesive for polypropylene

Push fit pipe adhesive! If you want it permanent. I use a small bead of silicone on the edge just to get a good seal in case I want to take it apart again, as a really good smear on a close fit will never come apart no matter what you do Aidan

    Interesting response from Screwfix

Yeah, it was better in the good old days when people were routinely exposed to asbestos, suffered workplace injuries all the time and the poorest in society died decades before the wealthy, who presumably just weren’t wimps. Shame that hasn’t happened to at least one more person Aidan

    Interesting response from Screwfix

So, presuming you’re not... why do you need staff to do it for you? Or are you one actually one too? This attitude is everything that’s wrong with workplace safety. Aidan

    B&D urban myth?

There’s a huge amount of urban myth and pseudo-science claptrap about design life’s for things. You might design it however, and test it for 10-minutes continuous, 10-hours intermittent or whatever... adjusting the design till it passes your spec, but designing something to fail at a very...

    morticing a pedestal table

You could do it one of those ways, or by hand. Are you putting a flat on the spindle before the dovetail mortice or scribing the leg to the curve? Aidan

are there any uk companies that maufactuer power tools

What are you intending to achieve would be a question? Maybe some assembly is done here, parts will be procured from all over the world, the chances of the motor not being made in the far east would be minimal unless you buy certain German made tools, the fasteners for sure came from China, most...

Flat head screw supplier - am i being daft?

You’re using the American term for them, that might explain why you are not finding them Aidan

    Bathroom Cabinet - query!

Full extension drawer runners, one top and bottom and 2/3 o the side, always hidden. Given how close it is to the bath I’d use high pressure laminate which is a ferocious price, but ideal Aidan

    Refinishing Lacquered Furniture

I’d try and scrape it off as a first measure, less messy and less likely to burn you. Aidan

    Vacuum Press

There are other methods depending on the shape of those pieces, what are you making? Aidan

    Raising Lathe

The vibration will come from the lathe not the wood (obviously), what you’re wanting to do is not have something that’s easily excited by the lathe. The idea of being heavy isn’t a solution in itself, easy though it seems. If you run your lathe at a very low speed with a very heavy out of...

    Ballustrade on internal skywalk

I’d move the post fully to the outside and sit the cladding boards between the posts instead of under them, reducing the visual impact of that move. That should make your calculations easier for strength of the post (which I’d guess will be fine unless it’s used for a James Bond fight scene)...

    Cabinet hinges

An MDF jig is the magic! If you make several and put them on a stick you can do the door and frame in one hit with guaranteed alignment I’ve just done 18 hinges on 6 doors like that, took about 2 hours (took 3 to make the jig though) Aidan

    What's this spigot/pin thing?

What an interesting design What’s the purpose of screwing the pin into the top part? I’d normally recommend a shoulder screw for that, but it won’t do the same, but I also can’t understand why you’d do that Aidan

    The ethics of tropical hardwoods

We should be doing more to protect the environment of our planet, the rational argument against that is hard to find. However the hypocrisy in many efforts to implement that can be quite stunning. Some are for organic sustainable clothing, but against fur farming. Some are for plant based only...

    Trinket Boxes

Are you up for manufacturing your hinges yourself yet? Not that I need some and you’re out of stock or anything... ;) Aidan

    Repetitive cuts track saw

Use a stop block and reference from the rubber edge. You can use a sliding try square for this as an example. Accuracy is reduced, but precision is high Aidan

    Cutting Steel with Circular Saw

Metals4u is who I use. I had the question about accuracy so rang them up and the first person I spoke to (who I wasn’t expecting to have that information off the top of their head) gave me the cutting tolerance per process used. What I got delivered was far more accurate and there were two...
