    Insurance

If it’s not professional use just make sure your garage/shed etc is included on your contents insurance. The question I check with is “if I put everything I own in the garage and it was stolen, would I be covered” if yes, then that’s fine. Some limit you to £1k or similar, which on using isn’t...

    Router table tear out

A sacrificial piece in front will help, as would a faster rotation, slower feed and shallower cut

Domino Jointers Are they really worth it, or just a gimic

Ah the old cliche, people complaining about mass-produced Chinese made products… using mass-produced Chinese made products to do so. The irony is as lost to them as the phenomenal quality of the engineering that sits in their hands.

Reusing wood from old antique furniture?

Furniture like that isn’t recently out of fashion, it’s been unliked for decades, I don’t see that changing. Make good use of it, whatever that use is. Sometimes you can lift fabulous thick veneers off old pieces etc

Domino Jointers Are they really worth it, or just a gimic

That’s an interesting thought. Power tools are almost a commodity item, there’s little IP in cordless drills etc… the outliers seem to be rail saws (but that’s almost gone now) and this one item left that only Festool make (can’t think of any others, I’m open to suggestions). Comparisons with...

Domino Jointers Are they really worth it, or just a gimic

Well, I’m sure there are companies who would pay you for that knowledge, perhaps the plethora of power tool companies who all make circular saws, angle grinders, impact drivers, drills and the other types of tools that you can choose one manufacturer from 20 or more options are just missing...

    Railway lines?

Have you tried eBay? Because it is sold there It’s not just commodity mild steel, hence its recycle value is more and the people who own it are more likely to have established routes for its disposal once used

If that was the case, they wouldn’t have a patent or any clout when it came to enforcing it, which isn’t evident from the number of competing designs available on the market. Even a simple thing like a pencil has a lot of technology involved in its making and distribution, it’s just not evident...

Are there any golden rules for making solid and stable tables?

Sure that’ll be plenty strong enough to support its own weight and look good in a picture, not much longevity as a practical table I suspect. I don’t think there are “rules”, but the compromise between function, appearance, durability, material use and manufacturing ease has been done for a...

    Hexagonal nylon bar/rod supplier

Ensinger plastics maybe. You can buy hexagonal rod in nylon but for small quantities you’d just use round and cut the flats on. Remember you only need two

    Garage Doors (insulated)

I’d probably build the same way, not sure if that’s right though. You don’t necessarily need marine ply, just good external. The groves will be a fiddle but can be done and they will take a chunk of the strength out the sheet so maybe thicker for the face that’s grooved. Adding sheet steel… the...

    Clamping Woes....

Buy decent clamps, there isn’t really an alternative and they will last decades, by the time you’ve worked out the cost per day they aren’t expensive, but that only applies if you have the money to spend in the first place

    Moving 250kg lathe.

Remember you don’t need to pick it up, just lever it, so maybe it’s just 100kg to lift (don’t know which end you are moving). A lever 10x longer than the working end is now just a push of 10kg (sorry not a force but you get the idea). Moving 6” is just a slight rotation of that lever

Domino Jointers Are they really worth it, or just a gimic

Oh dear, you are going to find the modern world very difficult. Still, you’ll never need to buy a domino, biscuit or peanut system for woodwork, is a screw ok or is it too far from “inclined plane rotated around a central axis” for you to make the leap?

Counter battons for air gap on workshop build?

I would. It’s outside your membrane so still on the soggy side in my view

    scaffold board rubbish

Exactly what is “solid” has been discussed before, but I suspect “mostly made from oak so that it looks nice and yet is still eminently affordable and also durable”… didn’t fit on a banner so well. I think their stuff is fantastic value, I don’t own any of it, can’t see me doing so either as my...

    scaffold board rubbish

I think the “industrial” look is lovely, however I too will agree that nearly everything with that tag is also in my opinion, junk. Here’s what I’d call an “industrial” coffee table, a 940mm diameter cast iron gear, grit basted and lacquered in satin finish epoxy to stop it rusting, turned...
