    No big deal, if it's your blood and there is n't much of it. Apparently the older one gets, the more things leak.

    drag backwards if you like the risk of kickback.

    Best welding fix ( given missing part, which doesn't seem that bad would be IMO Tig it ) and then as you say commence the grinding, swearing , grinding part. to avoid "bird spatter" if you are stick welding mild steel, use thicker metal and up your amps a bit, maybe even reverse the polarity...

    Welding by a blacksmith who does repairs on agricultural gear and then some careful dremelling with tungsten burr grinder.

    If you are using a jig-saw and a straight edge, switch to a metal hacksaw blade type blade, ( for sawing thin steel etc , the "wavy" one ) slower but far fewer splinters when cutting in ply.

    in case Paul nipped out for a coffee.. It presses down hard right along the cut line.it is like sawing with a sacrificial board on top of the one that you want the non splintered edge on.

    I knew a Joe Malone once, he could drink the hind legs off a dray-man's horse. He smelt of whiskey ( note the e ) and guinness, and pipe baccy.

    Wet shavings..dry ones would ( IMO ) accelerate the drying out. When sculpting "fresh" best is wrap in wet rags and then loosely in a plastic bag.keeping an eye on from time to time, each time of working it , re-wrap and store cool, but not so cool that mould develops. Unless you want spalting...

    Ask a landscaper or a local parks groundsman what kind of seed they recommend for clay substrate with stones and kids. There are grass varieties which can stand horses, sheep and goats, farmers don't plough their pasture, nor treat it special, they just let it grow.We had a small farm in Ireland...

    The other dimensions of what you want ( before you cut ) will be decisive..You have given a thickness range, but what width and what length ? Sheet or strip ?

    Going in hair, wax or varnish. The others are potential allergens to some, as can be the rings themselves , although both wax and varnish will seal them away.
