    Joke Thread III

Ask Jacob, he probably made Aristotle's tables and chairs, and taught him how to sharpen. I also seem to remember that he was to some accounts a b*gger for the bottle, Ari' not Jacob, ..quoi que... to go by the "sig".

Optical illusion or just plane butchery?

We actually "see"in a way that is closer to curvilinear perspective, our brain "corrects" this to rectilinear perspective. Sometimes ( in some shots ) cameras point this out to us. Take a length of wood, hold it horizontal in front of you, parallel to you, or even lay it down on the ground or a...

True dat French insurance companies didn't get to be as big as they are by paying out in a timely manner. Often takes years..sometimes many years. Even if you are the injured party in a RTA. Plus they quibble, if quibbling was an olympic sport, french insurers would take gold, silver and bronze...

@houtslager caution..long reply. Non, tu n'es pas fou :) But, as Clogs said, things take longer here, and it really pays off to speak and understand french well. Nice project, if you do most / all of it yourself.Very expensive if french "tradies" do any of it for you. Tip..When I arrived in...

Why did furniture makers put their mark on an invisible surface ?

A friend whose business was Classic Car restorations showed me this, said "try and take hold of the lady"..it vanished downwards. Impossible, he said it was an anti-theft device, done at about the same time as rappers ( and wannabee rappers ) were stealing VW badges off cars and camper vans and...

Why did furniture makers put their mark on an invisible surface ?

I did a mural ( one of two ) for a high class decorator's showroom near St Tropez, of the bay of St Tropez, made to look as if it was done by someone 2 centuries or so before and aged accordingly, the aging was all "trompe l'oeil". I heard later that he was passing it off as "he had painted...

I must admit the brico depot is on the way to the local leroy merlin, so rare that i look for leccy stuff in leroy merlin ( last Saturday being an exception as I was passing on my way to the wood yard Huet ) like plugs there..especially not since they told me how much they wanted for heat shrink...

Older type RCDs you could up the amps and then tell them, new ones you still can, but they get much more antsy about it.Potential prosecutions etc.My place in the Var I went from 9 to 45, ( 3 phase ) then told them..No problems. Brico depot and leroy merlin were both out of spikes when I went...

All he cares about is that it isn't costing him, his favorite phrase is pas d'histoires" ( loosely translates in the vernacular as "don't make waves" ) .

200v - 250v 50hz nominal.. Incoming depends on where you are and how old it all is. In the countryside lots of houses have still 3 phase , we had it, ( overhead wires on poles ) but as I said, when they decided to bury the cables ( for esthetic reasons ), we were not given the choice and it went...

Yep, that was when the people I know who had "puits perdu"were told fit septic tanks, ( and associated drainage filters ) or the building will be declared unfit and demolished. Place opposite ( new build going up ) was authorised last year, no septic tank, no mains sewage, "puit perdu" marked on...
