    Bathroom suitable timber?

I have made bathroom furniture from a variety of woods including oak, brown oak, maple, iroko and wenge. All are suitable if finished properly so for a dark brown i would go for either Iroko, Brown Oak or wenge. Iroko is the cheapest option wheras the wenge is very expensive and brown oak...

    TRITON 1/2 ROUTER

I got one just before christmas for £72. I have had a go with it freehand and it seems a bit awkward. I think I will permanently mount it in the table when I get back in the workshop. jon

    Bonsai Stand

Looks good. Have you allowed any provision for cross grain timber movement a touch of central heating could cause quite a bit of movement in the top at this time of year. In terms of finishing i would go for a 2 pack A/C lacquer which will be very hardwearing resistant to spills and relatively...

    Rant alert

I'm sorry your not getting on with the machine. I think youve slightly undersold the machine in your post in the interest of balance I would like to add that it is the best power tool I own accurate and a great timesaver. I'm sure you will have no problems selling it. jon

    Alternative to Freud Blades?

The serrated knives are mainly for spindle tooling. The serrations are for location into the cutter block and not for cutting which is a normal grind. They are more common on industrial machines such as planer moulders. jon

    Blanket Box - price enquiry

I would have thought ball park figures from a pro workshop would be about £800 - £1000 for Oak £500 - £700 in pine and about £250 - £300 in MDF. A lot would depend on the style and design of the piece. A forum member would probably be able to be significantly cheaper as they probably dont have...

    Planer thicknesser problems

I have no experience of your machine but on mine a similar problem was caused by a build up of resin on the rollers. jon

    Alternative to Freud Blades?

If you go for a 180mm freud blade you will have the option of 12 24 or 40 teeth. You will loose 2.5mm on the depth of cut but this shouldnt be a major problem. You could also try wealden tools or cmt from axminster. jon

    maple

You can put on a surface coat of waterborne sealer lacquer to preserve as much of the whiteness of the timber as possible. If you leave this overnight to dry you can then finish with A/C lacquer without it going yellow. I was told this by the morrells woodfinishes rep so there shouldnt be any...

I use a vacumn cleaner and soft brush attachment and a tack cloth. I will usually sand to around 180grit on open grained timber such as oak and up to 320G on finer grained timbers such as Maple. jon

    Router or spindle moulder?

A basic setup will cost around £175 for the profile and scribe block and £150 - £200 for a panel raising cutterblock. You can get profiled euro knives which will do a similar job for about £20 a set but will need a euro block. On the subject of which spindle I suppose its down to budget...

    Router or spindle moulder?

If you are going to be doing windows and doors etc you will need a spindle moulder. You wiil also need to budget for tooling which depending on what you get could well cost more than the machine. If you are going to be concentrating on kitchens you would probably get away with the router table...
