    Planing End Grain

This plane works ok for shooting Well a bit better than ok it slices through effortlessly. I have found any plane will work well as long as its sharp but the low angle bevel up planes work well those with a 12 degree bed and 25 degree bevel. Cheers Jon

Where do people get their timber from?

I would also endorse brooks bros the new name for F&W or Associated timber a quick blast down the A1 from you. Stuart Somerscales at Keelby near Grimsby which have excellent stocks of hardwoods http://www.stuartsomerscales.com/ Cheers Jon

Woodwork trades: How busy are you?

I am fairly busy and enquiries have picked up in the last month or so. I don't deal much with the new build side so most jobs come about as refurbs and modernising upgrading etc. Chippy I've found the best way of building up work and a clientbase is doing a good job for a fair price and...

No. 6 vs No. 7? QS vs ****?

Is this born out of fact or substantiated with reviews? Has Matthew ever said his planes are a higher grade of manufacturing? I have heard this touted about a lot but not seen any hard evidence myself but I haven't looked that hard either. I have ordered items from workshop heaven myself and...

WIP — Traditional Screw Veneer Press

Looks a great end result enjoyed the thread. I hope to use some torsion boxes for some workbench tops soon and have picked up some tips. It hasn't converted me to hide glue for veneering though :D Cheers Jon

    Belt sander belts

Don't know your machine but pretty much every 100mm sander I've ever used has had a 610 belt length. Can you wrap a dress makers tape or bit of string around the wheels to check? Cheers Jon

    Random Orbit Sander advice needed.

I have had the metabo in the past and it was ok the orbit change thing broke on mine and it got stuck on the big orbit. I've got a bosch and in my opinion is as good as the metabo. The mirka and festool are a different class I've recently bought the mirka and prefer it to the festool but...

    Power Feed

If you set the feeder to the out feed table only and take a deep enough cut there shouldn't be any problem using it on the surfacer. Cheers Jon

    Workshop Humidity

Did a test today the digital station showed an average of about 24% humidity but varied throughout the day from about 30 to 20 The only other thing to test against was another digital tester which has a probe and used to be used to test the humidity for drying corn so I assume it is more...

    Vacuum gluing question

I use a air press vacumm pump which gets left on but its more of a dull drone in the background than the racket fom a compressor. I used to use electric blankets but I have insulated the assembly shop recently and its easy to get up to 20 degrees now so no longer use them. Cheers Jon

    Vacuum gluing question

We had some problems with electric blankets heating up one side of the panel more than the other and causing it to warp. It's best to preheat the inside of the bag with the blanket so you don't get one hot side and one cooler. Cheers Jon

    Workshop Humidity

It's a digital temperature station thing so maybe not fully accurate. If you move it outside it goes up to about 75 Cheers Jon
