    Inset cupboard door gappings?

On that size of door I would allow 2mm all around and between the doors so your height would be 1816mm and width 602mm. A 5mm gap top and bottom will look a bit crude. cheers jon edit jason beat me to it but great minds etc :D

    Building windows

A lot of the sizes are dictated by the size of the reveal the window fits into. I usually make the pulley stiles between 22-25mm thick the outer lining 15mm thick and the inner one 20mm thick to fit the staff bead. windows are looking good. cheers jon

    Curvy Oak Kitchen

Its not quite a tree cut in half. The bottom and top rails of the curved doors are machined from a solid piece of oak but this is a plank 80mm thick and the curve cut out with a bandsaw. The curve is then machined with a spindle moulder using a template. The inner panel of the curved door is...

    Spindle Moulders

Instead of a ringfence you could use a bearing and guide ring . If you use a rebate block and a guide ring the same diameter you have a bigger version of a bearing guided cutter Or you could use it with a moulding block and a template. You would need to knock up a guard from Mdf or ply. The only...

    Cutting formica

This may not be applicable to the OP needs but when doing work with laminates in the workshop I lay out a sacrificial 18mm mdf sheet on the workbench and cut the laminate with a festool plunge saw and rail. The saw is set to take a 2-3mm cut and the saw is pulled backwards to take a scribing cut...

Bit of advice on angled blum hinges

When doing an inset door on a 45degree corner cupboard in a kitchen I make up an angled block cut at 45 degrees to take the mounting plate. A normal inset hinge can then be used. The blocks dont look too unsightly as then are angled back into the carcase and not that noticable. cheers jon

    dxf into sketchup

Hi Russ I have tried exporting dxfs from both Doublecad and Autocad and using various options such as exporting as components and blocks and none seem to work. The plugins I have tried so far dont seem to help either although there is one that looks like it might do the trick but it is $20. I...

    dxf into sketchup

I am after some advice being a relative sketchup novice. I have imported some dxf drawings into sketchup. In the drawing package the shapes are closed with no gaps but when imported into sketchup they are all in tiny little sections. You can make them into a component but It cant be extruded how...

    Building windows

I usually use mighton for the sash hardware and weights usually the cast steel as its cheaper although sometimes with double glazed sash windows lead is the only option due to the weight of the sash and the space available in the box. http://www.mightonproducts.com/ The windows are looking...

    Aligning Dominos?

It is on mine as well Jake. I personally just use the 20mm setting for 18 and 19mm board thicknesses the domino is slightly offset but it doesnt matter much. If you are using the 10mm from base setting you just have to scribe a line for a mid panel or divider and then cut the panel with the...

    Carcase questions

If you are using a heavy granite worktop then I would use the carcase on the right as the carcase is in compression rather than all the weight on the carcase fixings although either way will be ok. Face frames i use 38mm thick so that if you have and end panel you can use a 1mm overlay on the...

    Domino joints for chairs?

I think doing it properly can include the use of the domino you will get strong well fitting joints and as you are likely to have a few angled joints a lot easier as well. Having well fitted corner blocks also adds a lot of strength to the chair as well and combined with the dominos should be...

How long should a trend dovetail cutter last ( for stairs )

I always get a minium of 20% discount on Titman sometimes 25% if its a lot of stuff through my local dealer. The 20% discount would bring that cutter in at £31ish but excludes the Vat and delivery. cheers Jon

How long should a trend dovetail cutter last ( for stairs )

I was dissapointed when I bought a trend stair housing cutter only lasted a couple of jobs. I now use perform cutters from axminster. They do the same ones as trend as far as i know and costing about £7 a pop they seem to last as well as the trend ones. cheers Jon

    Spindle Moulder Questions

I would advise getting a standard euro block and buy the knives when you need them rather than getting a set with a set of knives that you may or may not use. You can get one that takes both 40 and 50mm wide cutters that will give you a bit more versatility. A 125mm rebate block either 50 or...

    Which 1/4" router?

I would go for the dewalt 621k. Its a nice router and as mailee says the switch takes a bit of getting used too but once you have used it for a while it becomes intuative. The switch can be left on and there is no need to keep it pressed on while using the router. I have a dewalt 615 and 621K as...
