    Goodbye

Don't you think you may be overreacting just a little? I don't know your past history with the member you mention but reading the 'Doris' thread I honestly can't see anything that the other member said that would justify you packing your bags? In fairness your last post to him in that thread was...

Is this saw worth a punt?

We shall probably never know unless it was Doris and she comes back and tells us! However at £15 it has to be worthwhile to someone. :)

    Lighting scroll saw

Again I have to say that this Maplins light is brilliant, yesterday I used it to solder a very tiny capacitor on to a hard drive circuit board, the capacitor was so tiny that I could hardly see it with the naked eye but with the mag light it became a job I managed to do and the drive worked...

Is this saw worth a punt?

I don't agree with everything that scrollerman writes but TBH I think that comment is out of order, unkind and unnecessary, everyone is entitled to air their views without being told to shut up!

    Different Hobbies saw

That's the first time I have ever seen a Hobbies Anchor machine apart from a picture in a catalogue, how much did they want for it? This was a unique machine that offered a true vertical stroke using a steel band on ball bearing pulleys, they also made this as a bench model with a motor. It was...

Is this saw worth a punt?

I may be wrong but it looks more like an induction motor to me rather than a brushed one, I much prefer induction they are more reliable long lasting and quieter! Although I feel this saw has been neglected and I agree with others that it is an economy saw and not great for doing fine fretwork...

Is this saw worth a punt?

I don't wish to criticise your comments but for the life of me I cannot understand why you describe the Hegner blade changing system as rubbish? When I first tried my Hegner I found changing the blade a breeze after my other saws, what could be easier or simpler especially with the quick blade...

Is this saw worth a punt?

Why would you want to do that? :) Everyone's point of view and comments are worthwhile and interesting whether one agrees with or against them. It would be a pretty pointless and boring place if we all had exactly the same thoughts. :)

    ...........

This rotating bearing thingy only applies to later clamps, I had the quick blade clamp supplied with my Hegner and it definitely does not have any such thing and I can assure people that as far as I can tell it makes virtually no difference to operation. what I am trying to say is that a cheaper...

Ah I did not realise you had hand problems, that explains why you need 2. :)

    Hegner blades?

I have been using Niqua blades from Hobbies for well over 20 years, I have always found them excellent. :)

    ...........

Could you not fashion a couple of rollers from bit's in your odds and ends box? Perhaps a bit of plastic tube cut to length or even perhaps a bit of brass for a better roller? :)

    ...........

Those blade clamp levers look a bit bulky to me don't they get in the way? Also why do you need one on the bottom blade holder, I would have thought that you only need a quick blade clamp on the top for quick pierced cut changes whilst the bottom of the blade stays in it's holder? Or have I...

    What dust extractor and sander

Err I can go one better than that! I open the bags empty them then reseal them to reuse, plus I never actually buy bags, when I sold my electrical business we had lot's of new packs of bags that were from older machines so sales were dead on them, rather than bin them being a scrimper I kept...

    Table or bandsaw

I use mostly softwood such as Spruce and European redwood which is difficult to cut straight due to it's grain , hardwood 'wanders' less. I have 2 large bandsaws inc a quality Startrite and neither will rip softwood without wandering unlike my Circular saw.

    Table or bandsaw

Difficult question to answer, I have both and could not do without either one if I am honest. it really depends what sort of work you are going to do, if your work involves ripping timber then it has to a table saw as a band saw (in my experience) wanders about with the grain especially when you...

    Lighting scroll saw

I agree, I haven't used mine for fretsawing yet but I had a tiny splinter in my hand yesterday that I just could not see, using this lamp and mag it showed up like a tree stump!! :)

    Lighting scroll saw

Thanks for the link! I went to the local Maplins and bought one this morning, looking at prices charged for this from other places £25 is a bargain, have not tried it properly yet but it certainly has a very bright light and large 5" lens. :)

Mine has one of those fitted. In case anyone wonders it is for the sawdust blower!

    What dust extractor and sander

Henry will do for both unless you are doing a huge amount of sanding, I use an old Hoover Constellation (sort of like a Henry) with my disc/belt sander it takes several months before I need to empty the bag, Sanders do produce very fine dust (like powder) so it will clog up bags and filters more...
