    Awfs18 & Hegner Quick Clamp

Pictures might help as it's difficult to understand what the problem is. With a normal clamp the slot goes all the way through where the blade fits, the clamping (allen) screw does not clamp on the blade it merely closes and tightens the gap where the blade lies. With the quick clamp the back...

    Got felt in Aldi today!

Martin when I last bought some felt in Poundland it was in the stationary section with the artists stuff but they do have a habit of offering job lots of stuff then you don't see the same item for several months.

    Got felt in Aldi today!

Not wishing to detract from the offer but can I just mention that quite often Poundland offer a pack of 10 felt squares in various colours, It's possibly not as good a quality as the Aldi offering and they don't always have it on the shelf but I have found it useful for backing fretwork and...

    When is a blade blunt???

As far as I know all reverse tooth blades have to be used the right way up. the Niqua blades I was using only have a few teeth at the bottom facing upwards whilst all above point down so cut on the down-stroke as is correct, generally you can tell which is the right way by running your finger...

    Olsen blades

Do people here find the Olson blades better? Only when I bought my Hegner they supplied me with some Olson samples and I did not find any advantage of them over the Niqua ones I use except the Olson ones seemed to go rusty! Maybe I was just unlucky?

    When is a blade blunt???

In the middle of cutting last week I had to change to a thinner blade but after doing so noticed that it did not cut too well and wandered from the line, when I checked I had put the blade in upside down!

    Edwardian cycling bracket

The mahogany panel is made from an old door frame that was destined for the skip by my brother in law, I ripped it into small strips approx 3/8" thick then using a router table and a straight bit smoothed the edges so that they were clean and straight and at 90 deg, I glue the edges with PVA and...

    finding replacement parts

Have to agree with comments from both Brian and Bryan! The table insert looks like the same one as it fitted to a plethora of cheaper badged saws, as both say you could quite easily cut your own out from a piece of plywood or plastic or even soft metal such as aluminium. I would not worry to...

    Edwardian cycling bracket

Glad I am not the only one, I make these things and enjoy doing so but when it comes to finish I am useless, I understand the some folks dip them in oil etc but when I trie this they go all greasy and attract dust and dirt, clear water based varnish is the only thing I manage to get any results...

    Edwardian cycling bracket

Just been finished cutting these brackets, one is made from mahogany with the cyclist overlay in Maple. The mahogany panel is made from 4 strips joined edge to edge making a 10 1/2" panel to cut the bracket from. The maple was just a short off-cut found in a skip from a kitchen fit I ripped it...

    AWFS18 Blade Changing...

The idea is that the blade holder is allowed to pivot on a knife edge so that it gives as near as possible a parallel action which results in a squarer cut edge, so the knurled knob should be tightened down on the clamp but then released so as to allow the blade to pivot but at the same time...

    ............

For me this is a perennial problem, I usually have to choose between my eyes or my lungs! I used to have a spray which I used with my motorcycle helmet, (anti fog spray) I imagine that it might work with glasses and mask in the workshop? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bob-Heath-Visor ... B00CCE8NF6

    AWFS18 Blade Changing...

The lever at the front is the quick release tension lever, the general idea is that you install the blade in the normal way with the lever forward and tension off, once the blade is in place push the lever back to tension the blade. Give the blade a 'twang' with your finger if it sort of pings...

HHandicrafts Lords Prayer pattern No 12

I know people will think me odd but even if I don't have a go at making this item I sort of feel duty bound to save this plan before it disintegrates, for all I know it may not exist anywhere else? The thing is that Handicrafts was not as widespread as Hobbies Ltd and they probably never sold...

HHandicrafts Lords Prayer pattern No 12

He used a Hobbies Treadle machine (The Imperial). Don't forget that when he did it there was not that much to do in your spare time. this was before TV and other time-wasting things that occupy us now. The actual finished item looks a lot more impressive than is obvious from the plan, some of...

HHandicrafts Lords Prayer pattern No 12

I have found my copies of the original Handicrafts design no 12 The Lords Prayer at the time it was advertised as the most ambitious fretwork item they designed and it certainly is magnificent, though a lot of work to do, IMHO lettering is one of the worst things to cut as unlike other things...

    AWFS18 Blade Changing...

TBH you have my admiration using a scroll saw with a duff left hand, I find it difficult with two reasonably decent hands!
