    Female newbie

It's brilliant to hear of females who do woodwork, I can never understand why more ladies don't do fretwork/scrollsaw work, it's an art just like painting yet lot's of ladies paint but very few do woodwork. Great to hear from you. :)

    Hobbies THE IDL fretsaw

I don't think they made the IDL for very long, It was first made in 1931 but by 1935 it was no longer listed. The saw is basically a GEM model with the blade tension lever/cam on the back of the top arm rather than on the front like the GEM and A1 models, the saw table is also larger at 11" it...

    Off topic bad news

Just to say if I don't post much in the coming weeks I am still around but might not be too motivated. Our German Shepherd dog (pic in my avatar) has been diagnosed with very aggressive cancer in his face/eye area and only has a few weeks to live. We owe this dog so much, in fact if it were not...

New video.. Making up small panels without any cramps

Thanks for the kind comments. Lol the bit's of calendar I used are actually my wife's old German Shepherd calendar she binned, and being a scrimper found a good use for them. Regarding tea chests, my late dad was a barrack warden at an RAF base and he had a plentiful supply of tea chests which...

    instruction on scroll saws

There are a few points made in my video here https://youtu.be/oVfNYFFSmjA In the next few days I am planning to do a video on choosing a scroll saw if it's any interest to you. The link to it will be posted here.

New video.. Making up small panels without any cramps

OMG don't remind me, in my early fretworking days I used old tea chests for the plywood and those those lovely orange boxes we used to be able to get off the grocers shops. Many of the younger members will probably not know what either an orange box or a tea chest is!

    What finish

Lol I am glad I am not the only one, I have a drawer full of stuff cut out but not finished, I hate finishing as I usually spoil the item with my efforts, generally I just use a water based clear varnish or a better way is to use a can of quick drying spray varnish.

    quality plywood ?

I will try to offer a little advice if I may. Firstly I think you are getting on well with your cutting, I especially like the butterfly, well done. As Davey says you are using quite thick wood to begin with. it also looks like softwood which is a lot more difficult to cut properly, you rarely...

New videos up making a small table using a Hegner.

Thanks for the kind comments. Well the pig will be staring in another video (if anyone is interested) at a later date. In spare moments I make whirligigs. one at the building stage is based on Shaun the Sheep, featuring the Pig, Shaun, Timmy and the farmer! They are all made from recycled stuff...

New videos up making a small table using a Hegner.

Indeed if I use the moulding method I use thin [moulding pins] while the adhesive sets, I punch them in and fill with brummer stopping, if you blend the right colour stopping they are not visible after the varnish is applied. in 95% of the tops I make I just do them on the router without using...

Making a small table 5 short videos.

Hi Matt, just to say that the camera was on wide angle most of the time, probably it was a little to close to the work, it's only a cheap camera BTW. :)

New videos up making a small table using a Hegner.

Thanks for the reply, I was a bit worried that they were inappropriate after 55 views and no comments! No question is daft, it's nice for you to ask and be interested, some little tables I have made I use a bit of hardwood edging glued around as it gives a better finish than the softwood end...

Not sure if I am allowed to post this here or whether it will be of any interest to members. Please feel free to delete if not appropriate. New videos up making a small table using a Hegner.

Not sure if this is the right place to put these links, a Hegner saw is used but it's also general woodwork. 5 video's showing how I make my small tables, it's not fine cabinet making but it does show how to make a useful little table quick and easily. part 1 https://youtu.be/XekEj3jLzdQ...

    quality plywood ?

Some useful advice there Brian and it is so nice to see someone being so inventive, I just love stuff being made out of things that are not intended to be used for such a purpose, (I hope I have got that right) Charity shops for materials seems a good idea to me, being a scrimper I get given old...

    quality plywood ?

Don, Thanks for you kind comment about my videos. I am not sure whether you are a newcomer to fretwork or not but if you are that is a really hard pattern you have chosen to cut, I have been fret-working for 50 + years and I would have difficulty doing that pattern! I hope you don't mind me...
