Fretworking & the Hobbies & Handicrafts Companies New video

I am not sure if this will be of any interest here, but thought it worth posting just in case. I have just completed part one of my video on Fretworking. The first part briefly outlines the fretworking/scrollsawing hobby with a mix of aspects of the hobby. Also included is a little fretworking...

Choosing a scroll-saw. Why pay more? the answer is here.

Hello Urrgly, sorry I have only just seen your question. My Hegner is the Multicut 2s variable, I bought it in Dec 1999 and it's still working as good as when new. Again sorry for the delay in replying. John.

Curry's. - Do NOT buy anything from them at the moment.

Surely you have just reinforced my point, now that technology is much more sophisticated many people would like some good old fashioned service to help them out. I don't say this to be unkind but I know many older people who are totally confused when setting up new products today with their...

Curry's. - Do NOT buy anything from them at the moment.

You have to go back to the abolishing of retail price maintenance back in the 1964 to find the ‘roots’ of the poor service we find from many large suppliers today. As a Young man I worked for several small electrical retailers during the 1960’s, in those days all shops sold at the same price...

Choosing a scroll-saw. Why pay more? the answer is here.

I often read comments from people new to scrolling or fretwork as to which saw to buy, why pay £100's of pounds when you can buy one for less than £100? In my workshop yesterday I thought why not do a video about the subject and went ahead. I thought there may be people here who may be...

    Old mitre cutter

It is a lovely tool/machine to use, very satisfying, sometimes I just 'have a go' with it even when I don't need to. I always have the handle at the back, never thought of using it any other way if I am honest. Has anyone got a manual? Lol

So sorry to hear of this Martin.

    Old mitre cutter

Sorry to reopen an old thread but I have only just found this one! Over 30 years ago I bought one of the same mitre guillotine as in this thread and I knew nothing about it, never having seen another one. Yesterday I was in the workshop and decided to make a Youtube video about the trimmer as I...

Repair Speed Control on Hegner Multicut 2s

Hegner spares are horrendously over priced, no way can this speed control be worth the £140 you quoted. Hegner saws are top quality and work normally faultlessly their one drawback is the stupid over the top prices they charge for spare parts. Hegner saws use induction motors which are far...

    hegner scroll saws

Have to agree with much of what AES says in post number 2. Hegner are very expensive and spares costs are horrendous. However on the plus side they are 'bullet' proof machines that rarely go wrong and are an absolute delight to use. I bought my Hegner in 1999 and even now get a 'kick' every...

    Router table videos

Thanks for the comments It's an eternal problem, if you make the video too long people get bored and turn off, if you make it short people wish you had gone into more detail and explained things more. I am on a slow BB connection and it takes simply ages to upload them to Youtube even though I...

    Router table videos

Many thanks for your comments gratefully received, you have not offended me at all just glad to get a response. I have made other videos showing myself making things, so these were just about the tables that I use. Although the tables are basic and of little interest to expert users there may...

    Router table videos

Have to be honest I am a tad disappointed, 76 people have viewed this thread but not one single comment has been made. I was dubious of posting my videos and I only do them in the belief that someone might find my stuff of interest but I don't want to make myself look silly posting stuff that...

    Router table videos

I have made 3 short Youtube videos about my home-made router tables, they may contain something of interest to anyone considering making such a table. (Probably not of any interest to expert woodworkers) https://youtu.be/kmble9HCbps https://youtu.be/OMDBIcNPMHI https://youtu.be/vwOeeoz3JKI...

    Nice Hegner

Actually that is a bargain for someone wanting a top quality machine at a fraction of the new price. It also has the quick release blade clamp and quick tension lever, two essentials for serious fretwork. The foot-switch itself costs £80 from Hegner!

    New Hegner User

Danny, if you are new to the scroll-saw I would recommend you get a copy of Patrick Spielman's book, The Scroll Saw Handbook or the newer New scroll saw handbook, you can buy them second hand for around £5 and they are worth every penny. I had been a scroll-sawer for 30 years when I bought my...

On the subject of spiral blades! they are basically just a normal blade that has been twisted. They are the spawn of the devil! Just don't go there if you want to remain sane. :)
