    cooking

I think only once have I been to Cornwall (1970 I think) and I don't remember making an expedition to find a Cornish tea, so what are 'splits'? Well just to confuse matters further they are 'baps' - that is a morning roll in Scoltand; it's quite likely that there are regional names for those...

    bandsaw power switch

But pleasemake sure everything is OFF and full isolated/unplugged before doing any of these suggestions.

    BGK-400

Being still in the wet wheel Tormek world and then seeing Mark's set up I do just wonder if the 'normal' grindstone - viz.his Parkside (and I'm not knocking that - I've got several tools from that source), but I do wonder whether it effectively runs way too fast for accurate and consistent...

    Escape excuses

I'm now single unfortunately. One thing that I did do right way back when was to extend the cord free phone system such that she could call me in from the workshop - and I was always able to say tools running, half way through gluing and so on. OK it was good for the regulation cup of tea, but...

    Winter Solstice

Apart from a short stint down very south in the late '60's after university I've always lived in Scotland. As a young man winter was the season because of my interest in mountaineering at all levels, and my log books give a good record of global warming. As an old man winter is now just a cold...

Help ! - Fobco Star pulley removal

I don't know if my Fobco is a 'Star' or not , but this has been such a useful thread that I've book marked it just in case I have any problems. Thanks for raising the question.

    16amp single phase table saw

One of the problems with open fori as this is that there is many times incorrect or over protective advice. The reason this machine is specified as '16A' is the start up current of the motor, and that is why the comments about running it off a 13A socket mention "throwing a fuse every 15 times...

    Struggling

I wonder if from your mention of slight rusting, there is rust now between the back face of the chuck and the bush on the spindle - a very effective 'glue', and I am assuming why the plastic washer is recommended. I'm not sure what is on the market now, having given up dismantling old cars many...

How Necessary is a Specialised Scrub Plane?

I'm not sure how to reference back to an earlier post partly relevent to this discussion so I'm just putting the URL https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/threads/der-gro%C3%9Fe-r%C3%B6mische-hobel-aus-ober%C3%BCttfeld.124385/ That post (mid August this year) was all about the re-creation of a Roman...

    Starter sharpening stones

I suspect that I can beat your sewing machine oil in terms of price, but have just realised that I am a limited breed in that I have no gas so have oil central heating. So the latest quote I've got for heating oil is 34p per litre including 5% VAT, and it works fine for me. So what's than then...

    An 'interesting' advert

Back to the original picture. I'm not sure if Sandyn was pointing out the 'Girls' bit - certainly the thread has gone down that road - or the fact that the charger clips have been clipped onto the coloured plastic covers of the battery terminals!!!

    Light fitting replacement

600mm square panels are the way to go as they produce an excellently flat light and no glare. I'm sure that " the auction site"(!) will have ones that are NOT the drop in frame ceiling type, but most of the inexpensive ones I've seen are such and are a little more of a bother to mount.

    Very old bandsaw

Sorry I missed the earlier posting with the motor plate. You are in luck there - a lot of older motors don't have the option. Having searched out where you are, you look pretty rural so I hope your electrician is up to VHD's and the like. He should check that the motor is linked correctly...

Table restoration - dowel screw woes

My feeling looking at that thread that it is too course for a metric of that diameter. Have you got someone you know who has a digital caliper and thread guages such that the pitch, or threads per inch, can be found and hence from tables work out what thread it is. You are looking for a small...

    Very old bandsaw

Just be aware where a VFD is concerned that the 'simple' VFD's produce 3 ph at 240vac which only suits a 3 phase motor that has been wired into delta configuration - that is the three windings being wired as a triangle with a phase going to each node. It;s most likely your motor is wired for...

    Scroll saw issues

Joe - thanks for starting this thread. I'm sure this topic has been thrashed around on UKW more than once, but having not been active for quite a while this has been informative. I sympathise with your clamp problem - having look at the Axminster webpage, my reaction without being a...

What are the basic 'dogs' I need for my new bench? Theres alot of choice!!

Thanks Marcros. I have made mention of my brother before as a professional cabinet maker and see what his take on this is as I've never seen any thing of this ilk in his workshop.

Can someone tell me please how to locate and reference back to a post I made quite recently including a reference to a couple of books worth looking for as a starter. Rob

What was this small hammer used for

Thanks guys for your input. I have no difficulty at all in going with Rorschach's description as it is quite clear that the shaft has really no strength at all to use the claw - and on that my apologies to Phil for not makig it clear that there was a claw - the photo is just too vertical to...
