How Much does it costs you to get to Shop?

The government calculate mileage at 45p per mile and that's based on depreciation, tax insurance maintenance etc so your journey really cost you more like 6.30 plus your £10.5 so £16.35. And that's based on a pretty low hourly rate. However you did get the item today so you potentially saved...

Can you recommend a disc+belt sander for under £150 ish?

Clark is not what id call avoid make but you get what you pay for. I think I paid about £80 for mine in a vat free sale a couple of years ago. It's fine. It's not too noisy but it's definitely not got an induction motor. I don't tend to use the disc very often but use the belt a lot. Dust...

Can you recommend a disc+belt sander for under £150 ish?

I have the Clark version and it's fine. If I have anything to long I just use it across the belt. Obviously it's not great for boards but as someone said it's an awful lot better than not having one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    ...........

I live right next to a coast guard base so we have the helicopter flying in and out at all hours. Being so close it is often low. I guess they don't want to gain loads of height to then have to drop it when they get over the water for a rescue. We also have a military range on the other side of...

    Router table insert

A mate of mine runs a company and had a customer phone him last week today that his order hadn't been received. No problem sir, what's your order number? It's A4838583 Oh that's a bit odd our order numbers don't have a letter in them they used to but not since we changed the system. Well...

My wife takes pictures + Alisons answers

I have DSLR's (Nikons) and lenses etc. I also have a Panasonic Lumix. The Panasonic is a waterproof, shock proof compact camera and it's a cracking bit of kit. It also gives me a lot of manual controls etc. I often find I'll grab that rather than my SLR as don't want to pick up a whole load of...

hot melt glue guns - bulk offer

Some great uses on here that I'd never have thought of. Oddly my glue gun is very handy and lives at one end of my bench. I even made a stand for it with a tile to catch any drips. So I really should use it more. I like the thicknesser idea. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

hot melt glue guns - bulk offer

Thanks Phil, I'd not considered using it for blanks, I'd be scared of the blank flying off. I'd did also wonder if a small amount might work for holding two pieces of wood together that required the same profile being cut out ie two curved ends of a book case etc. I thought it might leave to...

hot melt glue guns - bulk offer

Slightly off topic, but what do you guys use glue guns for? I have one but never really used it for woodwork, more for my wife and craft type applications. I'm just interested to know if I could be using it for something that I do! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Wifies' new toy

I bought a new Corsa last week for my wife. It was a ridiculously cheap deal and I have to say I was very impressed with the build and quality. It's loaded with toys inc AC, Heated seats, heated steering wheel and the Apple Car Play thing. £119 deposit and £119 a month! So much car for so little...

What's the point of dovetail joints?

I never said it mattered only that when pulling a join in one direction the dovetail is stronger than a box joint. Why bother with either why not just but them together and use glue? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My wife takes pictures + Alisons answers

I'm pretty critical with photos. I studied photography and imaging science and then worked in print and publishing for many years. I like a lot of the shots. I would say that foreground interest should be considered for some of the scenery and also the rule of thirds should also be thought about...

What's the point of dovetail joints?

I'm no expert but having made my first one the other day it seems immediately obvious that in one direction you can pull a dovetail apart but not in the other so for a drawer for example you'd make the dovetail so it couldn't pull the drawer apart from the front. With a box joint you can pull...
