    Fixed base vs plunging routers?

I have a bosch dual router which and I have the fix based section fitted too my table. the good thing is if I need to use the plunge I remove the motor and fit to the plunge base, no need to remove the fixed base casting. Also I had a few problems a couple of years back with a bosch plunge...

    jewellery box, mitre suggestions

Try your band clamp to see if it pulls the joints together - if not the theres a good chance they are not at 45 degrees. How did you cut them? best to true the angles up on a disc sander if you have one. You need to have clean 45's if you want tight joints. Cheers Ian

    Cellulose Sanding Sealer

Hi I have been using shellac sanding sealer and was wondering can anyone tell me the benifits of using Cellulose Sanding Sealer. I have found that shellac can clog the sandpaper if it is old but was wondering if the Cellulose Sanding Sealer is better at not clogging. cheers Ian

    Cufflink Box now with WIP

The carcass was solid sycamore and the lid and base veneered. I find placing masking tape over the inlay area a great help especially on darkwoods. Once the outline has been lightly marked remove the the masking tape where the inlay has to go this way you can clearly see the cut lines. cheers Ian

    Cufflink Box now with WIP

Hi Guys Many thanks! I can supply these hinges but they are quite expensive coming in at £48 a pair. You get pair of hinges 2 sets of machines screws and the correct drill size + delivery to the UK. They are alot easier than quadrants to fit. I also have cheaper ones which are not as high...

    Ideas for reusing sawdust

Thanks for the replys . I got a recipe for coal bricks which consists of 4 parts slack,2 saw dust and 1 part sand cement mix. I can get my son to make these up (for a small fee) and this makes use of some of the sawdust. cheers Ian

    Ideas for reusing sawdust

I was hoping for some other ways woodworkers reuse the dust and chips collected in the workshop. I have tried the logmaker but find they burn quite quick and the briquette maker might last longer but takes quite a while to make them. I also heard its good for weeds. Cheers Ian

    Problems with 3" oak

Thanks for that Ian, I think in future I'll go for 2" or 2 1/2". I had heard a while ago some woods were hard to kilin dry in 3" due to this - but was suprised when my supplier had 3" so I thought it would be ok. I don't mind joining pieces together to get my width as I have used a slipmatch...

    Problems with 3" oak

Well at that stage it was pretty cut up as I just thought the next bit will be fine. Just a bit of luck needed then. I did get enough for the job but that was at the cost of the full plank. Cheers Ian

    Problems with 3" oak

Hi I needed a plank of 3" oak for a project and went down to the timber yard to pick it out. The idea was to slice of the edge to get a more stable piece plus to show the oaks rays. But I found there was quite a few shakes buried in the plank. I got what I needed for the job but there was...
