    3phase generator v inverters?

Only the output from the old static converters can really be called 'pseudo'..... The big advantage of VF inverter drives, of course, is that they give you complete control of the motor. So you have electronic braking built in, variable feed speed for the thicknesser etc.

    John Pickles & son Ltd.

The Pickles AN is a one piece casting. The one in your picture has a separate casting for the upper guide support. Do let us know what he says about it!

Here's the entry for the stair trenching machine, from a later (late 50s?) Pickles catalogue.

So, do most of you use sketch up for your designs?

Alibre could be better for top-down modelling but I've never felt particularly restricted when using it in that way. I tend to avoid free stuff from commercial companies because there's no guarantee it will continue....

So, do most of you use sketch up for your designs?

I've been using Alibre for 17 years. There is a version called Alibre Atom which is very good value: Alibre Atom3D for hobbyists and model makers

Remaking a WB AGS 10 riving knife assembly

In case it's of use, I've attached a 3D model of the spindle housing collar from an AGS10 (1977). It's a STEP AP214 file.

Aftermarket fence for Wadkin BGS 12

Hi Niklas, You might be able to find a secondhand fence from a post 1976 AGS. These are an improvement on the original design. The new parts are available but not affordable.... https://www.advancedmachinery.co.uk/mac ... sembly-969

    Planer/Thicknesser decisions.

    Thanks! That's a useful comparison.

    Planer/Thicknesser decisions.

Has anyone done a comparison between the noise level of a Tersa head and a spiral head, on the same machine. Noise is the No.1 priority for me.... As long as I don't get any serious tearouts, I'm not that bothered about the finish as I always hand plane afterwards. I've only seen sound level...

    John Pickles & son Ltd.

I've just acquired a Pickles catalogue from before 1935. I hadn't realised quite how large this firm was... There are almost 170 machines listed! See also: https://www.gracesguide.co.uk/John_Pickles_and_Son

    Wadkin BGS10 restoration and modifications

I've got a BAO/S; Startrite bandsaw; Cooksley bandsaw; Tom Senior L.V. mill and now the BGS - lots of boxes of bits.... One thing I noticed on this 1960 BGS 10 is that, after 60 years of use, the rise and fall mechanism works far better than my AGS 10 did when I bought it new from Wadkin in 1977!
