Advice needed from more experienced furniture makers - should I mitre the corners?

You say the cabinet has been in the house for years. Have you kept the wood for doors in the same room as the cabinet? If not I would condition it to an equivalent moisture content before doing anything else (this will buy you some time :) ) We tend to keep our houses relatively stable so...

    Celebration of Craftsmanship and Design

The best thing about that exhibition was you were allowed to examine the furniture, open the drawers, sit on the seats. Not a single 'Do Not Touch' sign in sight. Jason Heap ran it.

    Expansion spaces

I have only made one set of gates (still standing) with T&G boards. I left about 2mm between boards (I recall using a nail as a spacer?) and only nailed each board on one edge so that it was free to move - the other edge is held in place by the next board's T&G. Received an email this morning to say this annual exhibition is now permanently closed. Haven't had the time to go the last two years but it was always a good day out.

The Chop, Sky History (Sky 123)Thuesday 15th 9:00

A question for those that watched it - I don't have sky - is the program likely to encourage or discourage people from trying this woodworking malarkey? Or is it too early to tell?

Insetting a cabinet door by 3mm using a butt hinge

Just my opinion but that knuckle next to the bead looks odd. Have you thought about using soss hinges?
