    Replacing sash window's sill

It looks like the sash has some rot too. I'd make a whole new window.

    Roof Ventilation

If you have a roofer coming just get him to fit a few tile vents while he's there. They don't take long to fit, certainly quicker than making holes in the gable ends for brick vents

    Solid Shed build,vapor barrier question

Thanks Mike that makes more sense, so if you did put OSB on the outside, as long as there was ventilation behind it, it would be ok wouldn't it? I'm trying to make sense of it in my head, and some of it makes sense some of it doesn't

    Solid Shed build,vapor barrier question

Thanks for that, so when the sheds filled with damp air, because youve had the doors open while working in there, how does it get out once you shut the doors when the walls are lined with OSB, if osb is a vapour barrier? And how would the damp air get into the wall if the outside and inside are...

Awful service (balance to Phil's thread) Travis Perkins

They've matched the very good prices we get from our local builders merchants in Buxton which I was surprised with. The only issue I've had so far was we hired a petrol slate bumpa from them, they sent a 110v electric one and a transformer, but no fly lead to connect the tranny to the bumpa...

Awful service (balance to Phil's thread) Travis Perkins

I've been using Travis a lot throughout lockdown, the Porth Madog depot have been good to me. Email them over what I need and it arrives the next morning or if it's not in stock they get it to me within a couple of day. Maybe it's because we're spending a fair bit (about 10k the last couple of...

    Spray Painting Glass

I can't imagine it would be easy to get a good even finish, would you be better off with some kind of tinting film?

    Face masks

Why would the mask allow unfiltered air in? They're to stop dust getting in not out. The air you breathe out goes straight through the bit of rubber in the center of the mask

thoughts on construction of a record cabinet

I would build it as per your 3rd picture but with rebates for the shelves to sit in. Then make a faceframe for the whole thing, without lips above the top and bottom shelf so you can slide the records out. Also, with extra supports underneath the plinth area as Mike suggests, could just be...

    Angle grinder..which size discs?

As sunnybob says. If you're buying metal cutting discs, I'm trying out a diamond disc for metal at the moment and it's been good so far but only had a little use.

    Solid Shed build,vapor barrier question

I can't understand how you would get interstitial condensation inside a shed without there being a shower/ tumble drier etc in there to make the air humid in the first place. Aren't most timberframe homes built with osb on the inside and the outside? Are they all wrong too? Genuine question...

    What timber should I use

This is probably the best idea

    High Torque Cordless Drill

Most recent 18v drills will do the job, it's more dependant on the bit. The bosch speed cut flat bits are really good and won't snap your wrist like auger bits will.

Plunge Saws and guide rail lengths

I have the ts55 and have no problems whatsoever cross cutting 4 foot sheets. Having a longer rail for it would be a lot less manouverable for doing shorter cuts, as it is the 1400 rail can feel too long sometimes. When I need to cut longer than 4 foot I just mark the board out with a long spirit...

    drilling granite worktop

I fitted a couple of granite tops myself in a utility room at one of my house, they were bought off eBay for a tenner, I cut them myself with a normal diamond disc in a 9 inch grinder and I was surprised how easy it was to cut. I borrowed a polished off a tiler I know, and did the the whole...

    Masonry screws - skirting board

Which ever foam you get, the gun grade ones are a lot better and easier to use. The cost of a gun is about 15 quid but you easily save that over a few tins of foam especially with not having to throw away part used tins. The guns never need cleaning out either As long as you leave some foam in...
