    Young carpenter of the year

Personally the lad who worked at the palace, but was knocked out before the final, came across as the best. He answered more questions correctly, got a roof on his duck house and seemed to finish more of the skirting with decent joints, but I'm no expert.

Diagnosing sealed heating system losing pressure ?

I suppose there could be 3 possibilities. 1- you have a leak in the boiler. Top the boiler up, isolate the boiler from the rest of system and see if the pressure drops. 2- Your expansion vessel has lost its charge . To check this just tie a plastic bag onto the pressure release pipe, which...

    5 years from now

If you invest £80k into cnc machinery, are you not then competing with the likes of the sheds , magnet, etc instead of being a bespoke furniture maker. I know a couple of people who have gone into debt to expand, (not in the woodworking game) are as busy as ever, but after the extra expenses are...

    central heating advice sought

BG are one of the biggest rip off companies out there in my opinion. Also power flushing is one big money making con in the plumbing world. I don't know anyone who does the job right. Just use some Sentinel X400 (follow the instructions) then use Sentinel X100 and a system filter when you change...

    List of mens rules

SWMBO has shown me this list. I can't disagree with it and could add a few more but I'm scared to.... MEN'S RULES At last a guy has taken the time to write this all down Finally , the guys' side of the story ( I must admit, it's pretty good) We always hear 'the rules' From the female...

Will PVA stick to a painted surface

I want to clad my painted newel posts in oak, as I'm putting on a new hand rail and spindles and was wondering if PVA would stick the oak to the painted surface or should I use a "pink grip/gripfill type adhesive. I know it wouldn't be a problem if it was bare wood to bare wood but not sure on a...

    maintaining a lacquered finish

While making my kitchen I had a go at spraying a lacquered finish on the oak frames. Now I wish I had just oiled the oak as its so easy to top the finish up once a year or whenever needed. In the areas of high usage ,such as around the sink, the lacquer is looking a little worn so is it ok to...

I've just watched the video with SWMBO and the first thing she said was " oh god, all the finger print marks would drive me nuts" so until its self cleaning, you better count me out.

    Aluminium channel

Try a company called Simmal. They have a decent wed site. Its fairly local to me and when I needed a little bit of aluminium they were very good to deal with. Their warehouses are just full of different ali profiles

I need a new combi drill

The motor on my Makita cordless drill has just seized up, so have decided on getting a new drill instead of getting it fixed. The batteries are Ni-MH ones and they aren't holding their charge as they use to so have decided to go for Li-ion batteries. I have a choice of 3 which I'm considering...

    wash basin stand

I've made a wash basin stand, out of a mixture of solid walnut, oak and oak faced mdf and was wondering what is best product to use to finish it. The basin sits on top of a solid block of walnut and oak, with a tall tap at the side of the basin. This top will inevitably get splashed and wet. So...

    TG?

I've got to agree with you about TG last night. I didn't understand the point of the tattoo idea and the beetle dropping from the sky sketch was to me, about, how much money can we waste for the sake of a 5 min slot. I really didn't find the programme funny for the first time ever.
