Boarding loft and loft ladder advice

second the 4x2 run across joists, i have boarded a fair amount of old lofts in this manor, (picture horrendous Cornish cottages with hand hewn joists!) with the cost of timber as it is currently I would think the cost could add up if the area is very large but there are some advantages...

Is Festool the King of Dust?

Hi sean, + 1 for festool ts55, its a great tool and the extraction is great, if i had the choice again though I would probably go for the mafell, and if my budget wouldn't stretch to either the bosch is supposedly a carbon copy of the mafell just lacking a few bells and whistles. I dont like...

    Acupanel

I will also add if acoustic isolation from an adjoining room is your intention that screws fixed into any wall will transfer sound, its just physics, mass and disrupting the sounds path are the only real defence against transmission of sound and so a secondary wall disconnected from the original...

    Acupanel

I would never suggest any fixing to rely on plaster board without any mechanical anchor behind it, screws simply wont hold. the plasterboard has to be fixed via one of 2 means, dot and dab in which case there will be a void behind circa 20mm or timber / metal stud wall behind into which it is...

For Sale Workshop clear out part 2

Hi nick not to get in the middle of anything and excuse my ignorance if I'm being a numpty, is the fixing bolt the bolt in-place of the handle on front of the vice? just thought I'd mention as maybe its still there and was overlooked. Apologies if this isn't the case, its just the sort of thing...

    Problem with pitched roof gap

Is it possible to drop a peice of timber into the gap and plane it to suit the pitch of the roof? this would also give you the opportunity to round off the apex and take away a stress point on the membrane, which in my experience is where they fail.

Planer Thicknesser in a small workshop, worth it?

I too would definitely take a P/t in place of the table saw if floor space only allows for one. I have both a tracksaw and a table saw, more often than not find myself reaching for the tracksaw to make cuts instead of the T/S. Best bang for your buck there would be Bosch IMO, I have a Festool...

    Jack's Garden Workshop Build

Hi Jack, My local bradfords seem to be the only real builders merchant still operating although I had to collect and they were only dealing with existing trade customers, it may be worth phoning to see if they can help. There seems to be one close to southampton. I must say I personally...

Good afternoon folks, im selling my Lie Nielsen skew block plane, its a great peice of kit that i had lusted after for a few years, but frankly it just doesnt fit my hand nicely and i never use it. Its pretty much all bronze so its quite heavy for a block plane. I bought the plane plane...

Joining solid oak worktops breadboard style.

sorry Jacob I think you misunderstood my question, I'm not making the worktop myself I have the worktops already, but thanks all the same. Thanks Sploo, thats pretty much what I imagine happening, did you glue any of the tenons? I'm hoping that glueing the tenon at the front will help to...

Joining solid oak worktops breadboard style.

don't get me wrong, I like oak worktops, I've just seen the problems that come up when they aren't fitted carefully, something I want to avoid in my own kitchen haha biscuits were my original plan, i was just after some input on using more substantial joinery such as tenons to control the...

Joining solid oak worktops breadboard style.

Against my better judgement I have decided to opt for oak tops in my new kitchen  This may have been discussed before, my apologies if it has and I've missed this particular method but here goes, my plan is to join the tops with floating tenons, say 5, front edge being tight fit and...
