Advice on hanging Jet AFS-500 air filter

Hello, I've just ordered the Jet AFS-500 air filter and was wondering what size hanging hooks screw into it? Was just going to use some chain fixed to the ceiling timbers then, but wanted to get the screws in advance. Is there any best location for the unit eg. height, proximity to walls etc...

Wheels for a Jessem Rout R table?

Thanks Merlin, That's really helpful, thank you! So are you saying that the thread on the Jessem table is 3/8 x16 bsw? I've found some 3/8 whitworth hex bolts online. Should they fit then? What length would I need? Cheers Dave Edit: just ordered a couple of sets of those casters and some 3/8...

Wheels for a Jessem Rout R table?

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone who has a Jessem Rout R table has managed to find locking stem casters that fit the legs? I'm pretty sure that these from Rockler in the states will but that's £50 incl. delivery. http://www.rockler.com/total-lock-shop-stand-casters When I look at the...

Which parallel jaw clamps and how many?

I take on board all the advice about not needing them for this specific project, but If i only bought the things i need i'd have too much space in the workshop  I know that the clamps will be extremely useful for lots of other jobs and i only have a couple of cheapo dakota long sash...

Help with sizing mortise and tenons

Thanks everyone. So would you upgrade both top and bottom rails to 2x6"? Bare faced tenon? Haven't come across those. Will have a search. What's the advantage of those? The main thing I'm not sure about is the sizing of the tenons, any suggestions? Cheers Dave

Help with sizing mortise and tenons

Hello, I'm planning a small workbench/assembly table build for crosscutting/routing with a Festool rail as well as hand planing. It will be 1500x750mm with the height to match my router table. The top will be a MFT style 18mm mdf. My legs will be 4x4", rails will be 2x4". The top rails will...

Need new extractor for small workshop

Hello, My old Fein QA55 seems to have lost suction and is a bit louder and whinier. I've whacked the dust of the cloth filter and and the inner paper filter that was all clogged with dust (been hoovering up a lot of plaster dust). I can't figure out what else to do to get it working like it...

Which parallel jaw clamps and how many?

Hello, I'm about to build some kitchen cabinets out of birch ply. I'll be assembling with a Domino 500 and pocket screws. I have a load of really long sash clamps, the ones that Rutlands flog off all the time, but really I think I need to get some parallel jaw clamps. Question is, which brand...

    Small kitchen build.

Hey, that looks great. I'm about to start a similar project but with white melamine or formica faced 18mm birch ply. I want the edges of the ply to be visible and a feature on handless doors. I'm in Bristol and was thinking about cutting everything with my TS55 tracksaw but having seen that...

Best sliding mitre saw (compound?) for around £250?

Does the silence mean that I need to up the budget  Or have I missed a similar recent thread? If push comes to shove I could probably jump to the £300-400 bracket  so would be interested in opinions on either options. Cheers Dave

Best sliding mitre saw (compound?) for around £250?

Any advice appreciated, I generally tend to go for good makes and spec (Makita, Bosch, Metabo etc.) but realise that it may be difficult at this price point. I'm about to build a nice solid shed and an 11m x 4m timber framed workshop. I've not done anything like this before other than large log...

Burn marks on edge of purchased vintage chisels?

Hello, I've just bought a few chisels on eBay, and the edges on a few have been freshly ground and have a black mark that kind of looks like a burn, not really sure. Should I be worried about it? Could the temper be affected? Cheers, Dave

I hate the smell of a router motor burning in the morning!

I had some good news today. I spoke to Bosch yesterday and asked if there was anything they could do for me as it's not long out of warranty and they've agreed to knock the price down from £170 to £114. Still pricey but definitely better than buying a new machine. So a good result in the end.

I hate the smell of a router motor burning in the morning!

But it's outside of their 3yr warranty? Surely they don't legally have to do anything. And I'm just dubious about getting it repaired with the worry that something else will go and I'm not under warranty. I rang them today to see if there's anything better they can do for me. Ideally I'd just...

I hate the smell of a router motor burning in the morning!

That included the repair. I've found it for around £140/150 - but then I'm not experienced at repairing these things. I just worry about spending that much on something that is now 4 yrs old and will have no warranty. But a replacement is over £300. If only i could just buy this bit - i...

I hate the smell of a router motor burning in the morning!

Well, I just got a quote from Bosch. The armature needs replacing and it'll cost £170! Doesn't really seem worth it if a new one is about £320 and would include a 3 yr guarantee. I really liked the Bosch with it's twin bases so I can have one permanently under the table and easily swap out...
