    Bristol Design tools, good quality?

Hello, I was looking at the carving tools in 'Bristol Design' the other day with the owner, very helpful chap; has anyone used them and can anyone comment on the quality of the steel? Prices ranged from about £20-£30 each. Cheers Dave

    Carving tools advice please.

Thanks for all the advice. I've been into Bristol Design to look at their own chisels. They seemed nice and the owner seemed knowledgable and very helpful; he spent a lot of time with me. Have any others used them? It was a bit confusing as his numbering system is different to the one that most...

    Plane sharpening advive for beginner.

Well i just had a quick go using 180, 240, 320 and 600 grit laid lat on a piece of flat steel. I flattened the back of the blade and freehanded the bevel. Seemed to work pretty well. Maybe i should just get a guide to hold the blade on the correct bevel when working on the paper?

One more question, how deep a cut do you think it could handle? I guess I would need 6 1/2 to 7 " resaw.

    Wood carving courses?

Hello, Can anyone recommend a good wood carving course, ideally for sculpting in the round. I'm looking to buy my wife some carving tools and thought that a course might be a good idea as well. Ideally in the SW, Bristol/Somerset/Devon/Wales, that kind of thing. Cheers Dave

    Carving tools advice please.

Thanks Andy, i was in there on Friday actually! i'm just not sure what sizes to get, and flat or curved? as i said, she wants to do things like green men (bit of a hippy) and general large-ish sculpture. I might pop in this afternoon as they had a 60 1/2 block plane that I fancied cheers Dave

Thanks, I take it that something like a Rcord Power BS300e wouldn't be up to it then? What shoud i be looking for in the spec. I see that the AWESBS that you mention has a max cutting height of 200mm but is it not powerful enough to resaw 170mm timber? Thanks for the help Dave

Must have been a different Dave, there are a lot of us  I'm only just starting building guitars so it's not exactly a way of making a living at the moment, but my previous profession has taken a nosedive as well  Can you point me in the direction of any models i should consider...
