    Plenty at Aldi on Thursday.

Aldi have a bench grinder/belt sander in this week as well as a slow speed wet grinder. The leaflet shows them being used to sharpen chisels but strangely they have no chisels on sale this time. They also have a multi-tool, screwdrivers, various other sundries, and plenty of work wear...

    Random Orbit Sanders

I bought a Bosch green DIY model. It has lasted about four years of being used a few times a month, as well as some bigger jobs like attacking a heavily painted and varnished 5' x 8' solid oak door. It is on its last legs now and is making unbearably loud noises. I wouldn't buy one again.

    Chiwanese quality ?

I'm fairly certain that my Record SC4 chuck is made in China, although it says 'made in PRC' on it, which I assume means People's Republic of China. Probably an attempt to distance themselves from bad associations.

    Total beginner advice

As someone who's been woodworking for a year or so I can say don't try to cut corners. If you need something for a job and you can afford it then get it because trying to force tools that aren't built for a certain job to do that job is going to cost you time and effort that you don't need to...

    Chiwanese quality ?

I still don't understand the insistence on typing chiwanese instead of Chinese.

    Sandtex Masonry Paint

The pigment is standard artists pigment, the same thing that goes in to both oils and acrylics. As far as I know most black pigments are some variation of charcoal powder. The white that's in the dulux will more than likely be titanium white unless the decorating companies are keeping secrets...

    Sandtex Masonry Paint

Wickes has some Dulux Weathershield on offer. £23 for 7.5 litres but only white or magnolia. I quite like the look of Wickes own brand cool grey, but I'm not exactly confident in Wickes own brand. I have plenty black pigment however left over from mixing some oil paints, so could I whack some...

    Sandtex Masonry Paint

Am I right in thinking that Sandtex is generally considered the best paint to use on masonry? I have the inside of my stone workshop to paint and while it isn't strictly outside I'd probably be better off using exterior masonry paint. Another possibly stupid question: Is the handle on a 5ltr...

    Merit's of second hand tools

You could have just bought a second hand saw that wasn't actually very good in the first place. I bought an old 'Number 4' plane on ebay that doesn't have a specified brand. It didn't cost a lot but it's a complete piece of garbage despite being at least sixty years old and having fettled it to...

    Dust mask

I have a 3M 7502. Filters last absolutely ages and it's pretty comfortable to wear. I use it with a Honeywell Bionic face shield if I'm doing anything that might take my eye out.

    Wooden floor in workshop?

Quick question: Do I need to go for the 2" battens, or could I go for 19mm treated lengths in order to avoid raising the height too much?

    Wooden floor in workshop?

I'm tempted to go for the roofing batons method so far. Might have to put an order in for delivery.

    Wooden floor in workshop?

Hi, So the workshop refurb is coming along okay. I have decided to go all out and do some work on the crumbling stonework before painting, as well as make the roof a bit more presentable. About 70% of the pretty small usable floorspace is something like flat, but there are a couple of areas...

More good stuff at Aldi today QUICK FEEDBACK

Quick update, I just bought their sanding kit. It's all sanding sheets, with a block and three abrasive sponges. The packet does say that it has sanding disks for orbital sanders, but they appear to have changed the contents from last time but have kept the same packaging. I bought it for the...

    Worth keeping elder wood?

If you're after getting rid of some I'd take some off your hands for turning.

More good stuff at Aldi today QUICK FEEDBACK

Sorry, I was thinking about the Paul Sellers recommended chisels. Just picked up the Aldi catalogue. They have some more DIY stuff in on thursday that would be useful for green woodworkers. They have some kind of log splitting machine that I can't see the point of considering they're also...

    Titan compound mitre saw

Their Titan stuff goes in and out of stock. Sometimes they're listed on the website despite the fact that only one Screwfix in the country actually has one in stock. I bought a Titan bench grinder though and it's great.

Some questions about MDF/pine/plywood workshop units.

Looks like that's going to be the one. Thanks. Now to convince the girlfriend to let me spend the bank holiday weekend building it.

More good stuff at Aldi today QUICK FEEDBACK

They haven't had chisels for sale for a good while. I've been looking every week but they aren't popping up in their DIY sales. I emailed them a while ago and they didn't get back to me.

Some questions about MDF/pine/plywood workshop units.

Hi, I posted a similar thread in general woodworking but I feel like this would be a better place for it. Essentially I'm tired of working in a dingy, dusty stone shed and would like to kit my workshop out to look a little more professional. After I've painted the inside white, I'll get to...
