What did you do in your workshop today ?

I chucked a green end grain cup in a box of shavings a few weeks ago just to finish drying off. I remembered it when I woke up this morning and went out first thing to finish it off. Got it done, but as I finished it started hammering it down so I ran inside and now I'm waiting to see where the...

    Corian Training

So it's a combination of wanting to maintain an air of exclusivity, along with a certain amount of quality control and a bit of a money making opportunity? Is it particularly expensive or high end enough that it justifies the exclusivity? I'm just curious because I've seen a few turners...

What is it about corian that requires you to need training?

    Looking for some shed advice.

This might be stupid to ask, but I've never used one of these sheds before so bear with me. I had to move out of a listed stone shed because it was too leaky, and at risk of falling down. It's up to the landlord whether he wants to fix it, but since he never used it for anything except storing...

    UKWorkshop YouTubers? Let us know!

My degree is, vaguely, in video type stuff. I don't use it, but I should probably put it to use so I've been considering starting a channel. I think I'd do a decent job of turning up the production values to make things interesting. I'd need to sort my space out first and make it camera...

Who is in and who is out?

I'd counter that by saying I've met Michael Gove and he was one of the most vile people I've ever had the displeasure of speaking to, not that he paid me much attention. Usually, the way he came across would have a serious bearing on whether I sided with him on a voting issue. It does annoy me...

Who is in and who is out?

I was in Barcelona recently and it surprised me how many people were willing to make an attempt, without looking put upon, to speak English when my terrible Spanish failed. I had people apologise profusely for not knowing certain words, when I was in their country and it was clearly my fault for...

Bathroom ceiling paint (above shower) - advice needed pls

Out of curiosity, because that would inflate your energy bills do you receive any sort of financial aid towards them? I'm not trying to make a point, just genuinely interested. Anyway, our bathroom ceiling is pitched. The ceiling above the bath is barely high enough for me to stand without...

Another young star in the making (guitarist)

I honestly believe that singing is something that 60+% of the population can do well enough to make a career of it given a chance to get their foot in the door. There are so many of them on youtube that they all tend to blur in to one. There are also plenty terrible ones. The teenage buskers...

    Beech wood

I had a piece matching those specs, maybe slightly thicker, up until last week. I used a chunk of it to make a quick and dirty rebate plane for another project so it's a bit mangled now. The price you've been quoted is great, though. If it's waney edged you could use the leftovers to make a...

which pen won't bleed on wood?

You could finish it first then use a sharpie marker, which will write on anything, then apply another layer of finish over that. I'd do a test piece though. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

    City and Guilds Furniture

I'd love to do an apprenticeship. There's only so much banging bits of wood together on a bench that's not really fit for purpose I can do. Teaching myself is fine but I think I could really make a good go of it with some good support behind me. When I left school and went to Uni...

    Scored some hardwood - Sapele?

Looks too brown to be sapele. Sapele is something of a dull, dark rusty colour and it can have a glitteriness to it which I believe is caused by a high silica content. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

    Japanese chisels

My Lidl chisels hold an edge very well, to the point where I couldn't justify depending extra at the moment, and probably wouldn't until money became less of an issue. Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

    Selling Entire Workshop

EBay will be a pain in the backside. You run the risk, if you sell at auction, that you will be one of those listings that slips through the net, gets no views, and goes to some lucky guy for a bargain. That's how I get the majority of my eBay wins. If you sell at a buy it now or with a reserve...

    Decent woodworking from Pinterest

Pintrest is worth a lot of money despite not bringing in any revenue yet. I believe their plan is to combine the trend for curating inspiration boards with new technology which identifies products in each image and makes them clickable so you can be redirected to a partner site that sells it...

    Table top joiners?

I'm using a couple of the same trestles (the beech ones) at the moment to hold up a makeshift bench. Could you route a slot for the trestles to sit in? Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

Did anyone watch Evans's "Top Gear?"

I wouldn't have been able to stomach Guy Martin, he can barely string a sentence together. I agree that the old format was tired. Richard Hammond is insufferable at the best of times so I was looking forward to a change of pace. As it is, Matt Le Blanc was the best thing about it and I loved...
