    Live edge table legs

Nice slab, I am jealous. For a couple of projects, I have made legs starting with a square piece softwood, and clad it so three sides are covered in oak, and the fourth face is a slice of waney . The ends of the oak on either sides are bevelled. The idea being so it looks like the centre of...

    Small claims court via solicitor?

Thanks all for taking to the time to reply. I'll stick a letter in the post and see if it gets re-directed, and go from there. Thanks again

    Small claims court via solicitor?

No - I wouldn't ask my solicitor for so much as the the time of day. They were worse than useless, and I wish only bad things for them. I recognize I may be chucking good money after bad, but it's only £25 to submit online, and I know she has money (as I recently gave her rather a lot of it)...

    Small claims court via solicitor?

Hi A brief precis - I recently bought a place, with the usual "vacant possession" requirements. The seller left 4 sheds and a loft crammed with cr@p. I obtained written (emailed) confirmation via their solicitors that I would be reimbursed for the cost of clearing it. I paid out for a skip...

    Parquet adhesive recommendations, with hindsight?

Great, thanks! May I ask why you are lifting it? Just wondering if there's something I need to bear in mind. Just googled it - did you use it in mastic gun tubes, or is it available in a tub to trowel on? Most of what I have read suggested applying adhesive to the floor and then going over with...

    Parquet adhesive recommendations, with hindsight?

I have bought several lots of reclaimed parquet (one for my hall and another for my bedroom) and have been reading various threads on here about laying, cleaning up, etc etc. To those who have laid parquet - with the benefit of hindsight - do you have recommendations for adhesive? Or ones you...

    Shower tiles/grouting

I always go for this product. Yes it's expensive and stinks, but it works. Being Mr Suspicious, I filled a spray bottle with supermarket thin bleach - no comparison. I note your comment about repeat applications of regular bleach, but what I like is that one hit does the job. I'd rather be...

    Extending socket cable

Thanks all for the replies. I will be testing to see if it's a ring or a well-disguised spur. Ta!

Post Christmas reflection 2 - electric carving knife for foa

Interesting! I cut a (from memory) 7"thick memory foam mattress in order to upholster my chaise-longue build. I used an old, very long (and very sharp) butcher's knife. In spite of being as careful as I could, the edges were "wibbly" at best. I'll def give the 'leccy bread knife a go for...

    Extending socket cable

Hi Thanks all for the replies. This is in a bedroom, so not bathroom etc etc. The original socket will be behind a large (but not fixed) piece of furniture, so v unlikely to get used, which is why I was happy to do away with it. However, a spur from it sounds the simplest solution. I like...

    Extending socket cable

Hi I warned you there'd be repeated questions... For various uninteresting reasons, I want/need to move a wall socket by about 2 feet, but there isn't sufficient slack in the existing cable to allow it. The concrete floors and cable being within the wall mean entirely re-routing will be a...

    Replacing room thermostat

Hi Sorry if I wasn't clear - I have ascertained which wires I need, I just wasn't sure of the best way to safely isolate the unneeded 4th. As suggested above, I don't want to chop it off in case I want to change to another 4-wire. Thanks both.

    Replacing room thermostat

Hi all Recently moved in to a fixer-upper, so apologies for the first in a long line of noddy questions... The old-style simple dial thermostat isn't working, so I am replacing it with a programmable type. The old one is 4-wire, and the new one is 3-wire. First question: do I just cut off...

    Gluing Foamboard

Not quite the same job, but I needed to glue memory foam to plywood. Following a suggestion from the forum, I used Copydex (the stuff that smells of fish). It worked perfectly, is relatively cheap, and even W H Smith sells it. Not sure if it would be too wet for your application - I have never...

    Vice install

I used multiple sheets of ply to form my bench top, which meant I could use nuts and bolts to fix the vice to the bench through the lower layers, and having a whole sheet on the very top - so no metal for my tools to encounter.

    Lime

Love that slice. Is it hard/stable enough to use as a trivet?

Combi boiler - removing and capping radiators?

Thanks all. I don't want to pull them all off at once - I can just do them one at a time. I like the idea of loosening and tilting forwards, but it's nice to know I can remove them entirely should it be required. Thanks again.
