    Kerry Super Eight

Hi I have just acquired a Kerry Super 8 (mk1, I think). The pulley cover is missing, and I think someone's retro-fitted a replacement motor (the latter probably being the reason for the former), but it's a sturdy bit of kit, and I am pleased. There's no bolt where the column fits in to the...

    Sash clamps

I am only an amateur wood waster, but I bought some of the steel ones from toolstation (not the aluminium ones that I didn't like the look of). They've worked fine for my humble needs

    Hermes deliveries

My heart sinks whenever I buy something and the seller advises it's been dispatched via Hermes. They are the only one I have ever had issues with.

    Newbie Alert.

I've only done one (a few years ago now), but I understand the content varies. Mine was in Hertfordshire, and we had the morning in the classroom. In the afternoon, we went out one-on-one with an advanced driving instructor. It was actually really good. Anywho - welcome!

wolf sapphire 6089 circular saw - spindle lock?

Hi I just picked up a Wolf 6089 - can anyone advise how to lock the spindle in order to replace the blade? I have done this on several saws and the spindle lock was always obvious, but I don't see anything on the Wolf. Thanks

    I didn't really need it, but ...

Lovely, I am a bit obsessed with Wolf stuff. Is the tool rest on the left a later addition? If so, does it have a maker's mark?

Removing tiles- which multi tool blade (s)?

I recently removed some delightful tiles from my bathroom and toilet. Having experimented with various size/shape chisels, I found a rigid filling knife/scraper easiest/most effective, as it fitted down behind the tile better than a bolster, so popped more tile off with each go. It didn't do...

    Land rover

Hahahaha, I'd forgotten how cars overheated. It wasn't a summer holiday if the the heater was going full blast in July, trying to bleed off some excess heat from the engine bay. My cousin has a 110 landy - he loves it, and has done loads of work (newer disco engine, comfier seats, overdrive...

"Ace" tapping machine as a pillar drill?

You lot are no help whatsoever! You were supposed to tell me it was a great idea, with no shortcomings whatsoever. Hmmmmph Just joking, obviously. Thanks all for replying, and happy Friday

"Ace" tapping machine as a pillar drill?

I have been offered for sale an old "Ace" tapping machine. Whilst I do occasionally tap threads, I really only want it as a pillar drill. However, as it was designed to slowly cut threads, is it likely to be too slow to use as a pillar drill (i.e. to drill holes in wood and/or metal)? My...

    Food safe wood finishes ?

I have used olive oil on dozens of items, and none have ever gone rancid. Never on a fruit bowl though, so can't comment on a potential reaction with acidity.

    (UK) maple

I was given a log of maple - I can't be certain but I believe it was UK rather than US. Lovely to work. As mentioned already, much harder than sycamore, and with more character & colouration, too.

    Internal door furniture

Rising butts were a boon in my old house. The living room door was right by the front door, and grit walked in on peoples' shoes would get trapped under and scrape against the laminate floor. Changed to a pair of rising butts, and that fixed the issue. They're a bit more fiddly to hang than...

    WOW! and "OH GOLLY GOSH"

On a more sensible sanding note - my much (much, much, much) used B&Q 1/2 sheet sander died during lockdown (in the midst of stripping a house-worth of 1930s internal doors - doh!) so I ended up ordering a replacement from Amazon from a make called TACK Life. I'd never heard of them, and was...

    WOW! and "OH GOLLY GOSH"

Does that mean the same happens in reverse? Someone who wants a vibrator ends up with a sander???
