    bench grinder wheels

    Thanks - I'll have a look. It's a mid-70's B&D grinder - I couldn't resist, but didn't think to check availability of wheels before buying.

    B&D urban myth?

I don't doubt you either - the decline of brands has been remarked on by various people in this thread. Long may it continue to mow!

Pity - I need a few bits, so was hoing to get the lot delivered. Thanks anyway

    B&D urban myth?

I suspect the average domestic drill gets that much use - bought to do one job, then never used again. Years ago I bought a Power Devil hammer drill, and that's about how long it lasted - literally. Absolute junk.

    bench grinder wheels

Screwfix and Toolstation don't appear to sell replacement wheels for bench grinders. This seems surprising - am I being dense and using the wrong search term? I need 125mm with 20mm bore. Thanks

Thanks all ...cue callipers and unnecessary Welsh accent... 👍

Pilot hole size for M5 coach screw?

Hi Is there a rule of thumb for coach screw pilot holes? I've not used them before, and will be putting them in to well-seasoned oak. I have drilled umpteen pilot holes for regular screws, but these aren't as sharp as "normal" screws. Thanks

    Multitool

I bought a 25 quid one on a whim from Aldi - and almost immediately found jobs for it to do. I hadn't used one before, so have no point of reference for comparison, but I have been very pleased for such a budget purchase. It has cut through softwood pretty quickly and tidily. Haven't tried it...

    Another new guy...

Welcome to the forum. I lived in Aylesbury for a few years (now in the depths of Kent). I don't know if they're still going, but there used to be wood reclamation places in Oxford and High Wycombe that were good for hardwoods (bearing in mind no guarantee of stock owing to the nature of the...

    End grain chopping board.....

I can't comment on mahogany's suitability for chopping boards as I have never used it for that purpose (or recall anyone else). However, I have combined mahogany and maple for various projects, including knife handles and picture frames. I have never noticed any bleed from one to the other.

    Strange Food Habits

Yeah, I know - but I used to like annoying my ex (who loved sweetcorn) by saying it. It's still revolting, though.

    cooking

My brother sent me some of that from the US - it came with a teeny tiny spoon, about the size of a pinhead. It was still too big...

    Strange Food Habits

LOVE gherkins - I recently found jars of gherkin slices in my local Tesco reduced to pennies a jar, and bought a load. They're nearly all gone. - I quite like raw mushroom, but cooked mushroom has the flavour and consistency of a pencil eraser - sweetcorn is the food of the devil. Apart from...

    sliding mitersaw confusion

Has it always been "out"? Or has it got worse over time/recently? I ask as I have an Erbauer 235mm jobbie - not exactly high-end, but I like it, and it's always been good enough for for my needs. Anywho, I laid laminate flooring in two double rooms, cutting the planks to length with said saw...

    Oven Heater Element

Only had to do it once but I went for a genuine part - as you say, connectors etc might not be quite right. Incidentally, the element got changed from inside the oven (great) but you still had to get round the back to undo/do up the retaining bolts (doh)

    Kerry Super Eight

Thank you, I'll give it a try.

    Kerry Super Eight

Edit: seems it is just a bolt, but if anyone could tell me the thread size I'd be very grateful. It's imperial, and nothing in my bucket of bolts fits. M10 fine pitch is close, but a tiny bit too big

Twist drills - HSS, Titanium coated or Cobalt?

Ditto the comments re reserving cobalt drills for tricky materials, and using HSS for "every day". For what it's worth, I have some branded cobalt, and some cheapo unbranded Toolstation cobalt ones, and they both cut equally well. I do find they can snap the cutting edge quite a bit more...
