    Bandsaws - what make?

Thanks all for the replies. Would it be worth my while spending another £50 or so and getting, say, the Axminster AWSB2? Bear in mind my feeble woodworking skills. Or are there any good alternatives to the Axminster, suitable for a hobbyist? Apologies for flogging this subject, but if I'm...

    Bandsaws - what make?

Afternoon, I have been looking at various 2-wheel hobby bandsaws, and they all seem much of a muchness, in terms of features. However, before I part with any cash, I was wondering if anyone has any experience of the following, in terms of reliability, usability, build quality etc. Also, are...

    Free hard wood

I like the drawer fronts, much more interesting than if they had four rounded corners each (if that makes sense).

    What bandsaw?

Many thanks for the feedback, I'll have a closer look at the Axminster range! I've ben quite spoiled 'cos I've had access to my Dad's bandsaw, but I'm shortly to move away quite a distance, so am gonna have to get my own (bye bye also to his radial arm saw, morticer etc etc etc).

    What bandsaw?

Hello, Any recommendations for a decent bandsaw, bearing in mind I'm on a fairly limited budget (up to £150ish), and even with the finest machines in the world, my work will still be poor! I see Clarke and Axminster have some nice-looking ones, anyone had any experience, or can suggest any...

    bureau refurbishment

Good luckwith it. I've revamped furniture before that looked sh!t and finished up with something half decent, so hopefully you'll have similar success. That said, if you decide not to proceed with this particular piece - have you tried British Heart Foundation furniture shops? They often have...

Difference between block and timber frame

Bearing in mind I know nothing about anything - aren't fire regs also an issue with "alternative" building methods? I understand that a green oak frame meets fire regs, but would all timber?

Bandsaw - Burgess BBS2 - need help finding spares

I have that exact model, and got a new blade from Screwfix (56.5"). It may be just mine, but I've had issues getting the blade tight enough. At the moment, the blade seems to keep following the grain of the wood. Would a new/stronger spring on the tensioning bolt remedy this? If so, can anyone...

    Timber supplier

Afternoon, Am going to sound like a spanner now, but hey-ho... I need some lengths of a darkish hardwood (something like mahogany). I don't really care wat it is, it just needs to be darkish to contrast with the redwood I'm using. I'll need lengths of 500mm x 40mm x 20mm. Anyone know of a...

    Very very tall doors

I'm a complete novice, so please disregard if I'm talking out of my backside. However, if the client wants a totally smooth looks on the exterior, could the framework/crossbracing etc be done on the inside. The outside then being clad in, say, MDF?

    Bandsaw issues

Thanks for the reply. I'll be investing in a more suitable blade, once I've been able to get it to run right. I'll get one with toothing like you suggest. Re quality, I went for an Axminster. There is indeed a spring tensioner. I had it wound down as tight as it would go. The bearing for the...

    Dowelling jig

Does anyone use these anymore? Or is my (admittedly fairly old) "Guide to Woodworking" totally out-of-date? If not, is the Stanley No.59 any good, or could anyone suggest a decent budget one? (I know you should buy the best tools you can afford, but I could have the finest tools made, and my...

    Bandsaw issues

Hello, I had a go with my recently acquired bandsaw at the weekend, but I'm having a slight problem. I ran off some 12mm thick hardwood (beech), and it was fine. It was slow, but it did the job (I accidentally ordered a 14 tpi blade - doh). However, when I tried to run through some 15mm...

    Powerline Band Saw blades

Me again - sorry! Blade arrived, got it all set up and it seems fine. However the blade guides (the little spinny-round grooved steel wheels that the blade runs though) are quite noisy, and run a little rough. They're a little corroded, so I'd like to replace them. Any idea where I can get...

    Powerline Band Saw blades

Thanks all for the replies. I've got a blade on order. Am very excited as the saw came without one so I haven't had a chance to use it yet!! (is that a bit sad??)

    Powerline Band Saw blades

I made it 58" but that was at maximum adjustment, so I reckon you're on the money. Any idea what width of blade, if there's a range? Many thanks, Matt

Hello, First of all, excellent forum, I wish I found this ages ago! And apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong section. Can anyone assist, I've recently acquired a Powerline Band Saw Model No. BBS20 Mk II, and it needs a new blade. Can anyone advise where I can buy one, and can you confirm...
