    cutting laminate worktops

I've never done this before, so advice please! I've ordered a circular saw, and I'm going to clamp a straight edge to the top, as a guide. Is there anything I should be aware of? How do I ensure the laminate face of the worktop doesn't chip/crack/tear? I've seen some kitchens where this has...

    Gunstock

Post some before and after pics, please, if you decide to go down this route. Why do you want to make your own? Is it just an interesting project, or for a specific reason? My dad made one for his air rifle, many years ago, and made the butt a bit longer, so he could use it more comfortably.

Mini Clock inserts and where to buy them

Not sure if it's what you're after, but Hobby's used to sell clock mechanisms. Not had a catalogue off them in a few years though.

    Sleeved nuts/bolts

Hello, I'm building a small folding table for the garden. My large folding garden table (bought from Homebase) uses sleeved nuts and bolts to allow the legs to swing in and out of position. Anyone have any idea what these nut-and-blts sets are called? The nut is a threaded tube that the bolt...

    Projects for Presents

It's a great idea to make presents (not everyone would appreciate a home-made gift, but those that would, really do - if that made sense). Mrs DM79 loves crystals, so I bought her a chunk of amethyst, and made a simple stand for it out of oak, and a matching oak tealight holder - the iea being...

    An alternative to oak advice

Sounds like a fun project. An apple press is on my wish list. Please keep us posted on your progress, if you don't mind?

    Evolution Rage

Thanks for the tip! Can you advise what price (ballpark, if you can't remember exactly)? I've had a look on the band q website, it it doesn't appear to be reduced. Not sure if that IS the lower price? Apologies if that made no sense!

    Evolution Rage

Hello, I intend to buy a circular saw in the not-too-distant. I don't want to spend a lot 'cos it'll be for rough(ish) ripping, as I have other tools for finer work (and I'm tight ;-). Anywho, anyone had any experience of Evolution Rage tools? The ones that are marketed as being able to saw...

    teak timber pricing

Re the oils in iroko, is this why it's seemingly self-darkening? I've been cutting some to make a small folding table. When freshly cut, it's a sort of yellowish colour. However, a few days later, it's gone sort of orangey(ish). Apologies for the thread hi-jack.

    Is this Greenhart?

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but from what tree does greenheart come? Is it native? I'd never heard of it before reading this thread. If the answer is "the native greenheart tree", I shall feel silly.

    Zig Zag Sideboard - WIP

I like it. A very different (at least, I've never seen anything quite like it) take. A room decked out with furniture in the same vein would be really cool.

    Inca bandsaw

My Dad bought an Inca bandsaw new about 25years ago. Having been looked after, it's still going strong.

    Chuck on Axminster WD13S

Hello, Just received my Axminster WD13S pillar drill, and it looks great. One small question (as there weren't any instructions regarding it included) but does the chuck just push on? If so, will hand-fitting it, and then winding it down against a piece of scrap wood fix it on sufficiently...

    traditional slotted steel woodscrews availability

Pardon my ignorance/nosiness, but why would you want slotted screws? Is it an aesthetic thing, or are there instances when slots are preferable to cross heads? Please excuse the noddy question!

    Forstner Bits ?

By how much, approximately, can the holes be overlapped? I want to use a forstner bit in a pillar drill for morticing (i.e. drilling out the bulk of the waste, and finishing off with a chisel to clear the corners). Thanks!

New Axminster website - what do you think of it ? POLL ADDED

Maybe it's just my machine, but the new site seems terribly slow.

I like it. An interesting new take on an (2000 year) old theme.
