Prep of the router for new table

What are you using to power the motor?

Fittings for musical instrument carrying case

Hi, I need to make a carrying case for a small button accordion. Where would be the best place to look for decent quality latches and fittings? The case will be around 11" square, by around 6" or so. It would be kind of disastrous if it came open while being carried around, and I'd also...

Restoring / Finishing Bench Plane Sole

Chears, will do so. I guess you're thinking this could be "all in my head" and you could be right at that.

Restoring / Finishing Bench Plane Sole

Hi, This is a junk shop purchase, and needed a bit of a clean up before putting into service. What I'm finding is that the plane doesn't seem to run easily on the work, there's more friction and resistance than I'd expect even with a bit of wax. I think I have the sole pretty clean and its...

    Router table insert

I'm still in ... if the project's still a goer. One steel plate with standard rings, can drill and tap myself.

Elecktra Beckum 316 (Metabo) Bandsaw blade guides

The lower guide on mine broke when I tightened the locking screws. Its just a really bad design. The dealer got me a replacement casting under warranty, but I can see it just breaking again. My solution is to not use the lower guides, only the lower thrust bearing. If anyone knows how to...

    Allen key knife and chisel

No tempering? Sounds too good to be true, and coincidently I was having a little tidy up and I've quite a few surplus allen keys as well.

    Forstner bits in hand drills?

Never had a problem with Forstner bits either in a real hand drill, or a hand-held power drill. As a matter of fact I've never had any burning when using them under power, I guess I must drill a whole lot slower than you guys! Only problem I have is clogging. They don't clear chips very...

    Modern No.778 Rebate Planes

Thanks everyone. I'll keep an eye out for a Woden (I already have a wooden skew rabate, but that needs some work). At the moment its more of an impulse. When I use the 78 I always wish it was a bit better.

    Modern No.778 Rebate Planes

That looks seriously impressive, a whole different class. Shame about the price tag though.

    Modern No.778 Rebate Planes

Hi, For some time I've been looking to pick a Record 778, and sell my Stanley 78 onto someone who will love it. Only problem is that they don't seem to turn up all that often, or I miss them. So I was wondering what the panel think of the modern 778s that can be bought off the shelf when...

Advice on My first Bandsaw (and last! if I get it right)

One other thing for the original poster, if possible check out how easy all the adjustments are on the machine. It was a nasty surprise for me to find that you're supposed to remove table from the Electra Beckum in order to adjust the lower guides.

Rust protection for my poor little no4!

That's great stuff. As well as protecting the metal, it also makes the plane run smoother on the work. I've also seen recommendations for "Renaisance Wax" which is apparently formulated specifically to protect metal.

Advice on My first Bandsaw (and last! if I get it right)

Best wishes. I would say that my bandsaw (BAS 315/6) has been my biggest disappointment in terms of tool purchases. The worst thing is that I'm not sure how I could have avoided that - the BAS315 was certainly really widely recommended and I have a feeling that even if I'd asked for opinions...

Now Sold: Elektra Beckum 315 bandsaw

Thanks - can it be adjusted to match blade drift? That's not quite clear from the web site.

Now Sold: Elektra Beckum 315 bandsaw

Hi, can I hijack the thread a little and ask which fence you used for the upgrade .. was it specific for the BAS-315 or did it need modification? Thanks

Sanding stop champfer stair balustrades- The quick way

Is the sanding drum supported from underneath, or hanging from the chuck? I think the morse taper would fall out of my drill.

Door Hinge Right Or Wrong Way ?

My "logic" is that the moving part should be the lighter part, all other things being equal.

    B&Q Massive price increase ...

For some sheet materials the price for a smaller sheet is actually higher than the price of the larger sizes !! That seems like a systematic policy, maybe based on the idea that domestic customer won't be buying 8 x4 so don't even make that price comparison.
